If you watch enough "House Hunters", you would not be surprised to see a back yard in a desert state that looks like this. A lot of the yards shown are completely unfinished and look like an empty lot.

Well whatever you want to call the ugly 'back yard', it would be easy enough to fix-the ugly of the house itself is, unfortunately, forever!

And it will only get uglier with it's new occupants.

That yard is typical for Arizona. You could have nice lawn, but you would have to waste water to have it. I think this house is nice for a 20 year old girl. I lived in a studio hell hole at that age.

I wouldn't expect to see a lush lawn in AZ & was unsurprsed by the back lot. These folks basically bought it, painted it (beige) & put it on the market. The back lot I guess was covered in cheap pea gravel to sell it, but it is a great size & has potential. I know you guys like the differences so I just thought I tell you about "yards". Specifically where I'm from there is a lot of terraced houses that have a yard, and a little shed where the outhouse used to be. The yard is big enough to have a bin (trashcan) & a few plant pots (1 yd x 1 yd! Lol). It would always make me laugh in NJ when his dad/relatives talked about the "yard" & it was this lush green garden.
Yep, we call that a "lawn" too. The area it sits on is the yard.

Maricopa is quite a drive from ASU. And yes this is a typical home out there. Our yard kinda looked like that when we bought our house. We put in cactus, trees and flowers and we extended the patio. Xeriscaping is the way to go here. I had a house with a grass lawn and it was expensive and a pain in the ass to maintain.

If you live in a desert, having a lawn is stupid.
