Okay seriously, when my Grandmother passed I was given her antique bedroom furniture and she was full Irish all I want to do is to add some touches to my room to go with her furniture in her honor. I was thinking along the lines of artwork and maybe a bed cover.

Glitter, I think it's a lovely idea. I think if you use her furniture and incorporate some touches like you're describing, it will look great and be meaningful to you. I'm not sure that there is an iconic "Irish bedroom," although we got some good non-joking descriptions in this thread.

Hi Glitter, I feel bad now about all the holy catholic stuff! If I were you, I would some embroidered bedlinen (maybe all cream colour), get some prints of W.B. Yeats or Francis Bacon artwork (Irish artists from back in the day), and maybe keep your eye out for some secondhand books by Irish poets etc like Patrick Kavanagh, James Joyce etc.. or nicer still, a small framed poem of his on the wall?!

My Grandmother converted to my Grandfather's religion so we never were Catholics so don't worry about it.
Funny though that it is still so acceptable to stereotype all nationalities but race is taboo.
I found a site on the internet that actually has some really pretty things but also some really cheesy things. I can have a small framed print made up with her name and the name's history on it I thought that would be cool. But they also sell the stuff I would never want like shamrock prints and Irish turf houses could you imagine?

Weren't you just stereotyping the Irish nationality by asking what belongs in an Irish room?

I'm pretty sure most Irish people would not appreciate the stereotypes you were fishing for in this thread. That's how Americans picture the Irish to live.

I'm also pretty sure that if you ever actually went to Ireland you would find rooms of all shapes, colors, and styles.

    Just sayin'.

Hello mother fucker! when you ask a question read also the answer instead of asking another question on an answer who already contain the answer of your next question!

    Then, you're not fucking Irish.

That's all I can think of every time I hear the word "Irish". It was so funny because said friend has the shamrock tat, always has an Ireland shirt on, etc.
    That is f*cking excellent!

Ok, so first of all that bedspread needs to be orange then.....

Seriously, go for a cottage-y look, maybe an old quilt (we used to call them eiderdowns - but then I'm talking about the Welsh side of the family...), those aran blankets sound great tho! I'm going to look into making some of those!

Honesty I was not fishing for any sterotype with this thread, I was asking because I know a lot of people on this board are from all over the world and a lot have traveled. I was asking because I wanted something authentic and since I have never been to Ireland and don't know anybody that personally has I was asking to get some honest replies.

I am sure when I do get to go to Ireland, a dream of mine, I will see all kinds of styles just like I do in America.

    Just sayin'

That is fine if you think it is ridiculous, there are a lot of ways I have seen people decorate there homes that is not my taste but if it makes them happy so be it!

Honestly I was just trying to honor my Grandmother but putting her heritage with her furniture, I did not want to go into all that I just wanted to see if people threw some neat things out there since I was having trouble coming up with something that seemed authentic. I truly wish now I would have never asked.

It is okay I think I am just hyper sensitive this week.

No progress I can't come up with anything that feels right so right now I am considering decorating my room like a 70's porn set...... Just kidding!

    ^^^
do you mean like porn as art?
that reminds me of an exhibit i once went to in ottawa. the artist would freeze scenes from gay pornos, and then he'd recreate them, except woven, like rugs. it was actually kind of cool.
