Default Spanish colonial in La Cañada Flintridge

Husband-and-wife architects Michael Burch and Diane Wilk have finished work on a 1925 Spanish Colonial house in La Cañada Flintridge, preserving Everett Babcock’s original architecture while infusing the property with their own artistry. The result is a beautiful home that feels intimate in scale and skillfully blends the new with the old.

I have a fascination with courtyards. When I was a kid, I dreamed all the time of living in a house with one.

i don't really like spanish colonial. well, i like original spanish colonial that is hundreds of years old (and even then, i like the architecture but i like it mixed with more modern furniture and not that horrible dark wood baroque-ish spanish furniture which is just depressing) but i don't care for the neo-colonial california kind.
    not for me.
and i agree with grimm, it's too zorro-like.

I don't think there's any wallpaper. It's all tile work.

I think this place may look better in person. The photos might have a lot of saturated color to give them graphic impact, and in real life it may all look a lot softer. Maybe.

    i don't see wallpaper either.
and i don't think it's any more subdued or tasteful in real life. i've seen quite a few of these neo-colonial houses and they really do look like bad zorro sets.

Hmm. Too bad. I've seen a few, too, but they didn't have so much colorful tile.

I love the tiles. Maybe it's a bit too much all at once to have a whole wall of it, but I love the bright colors and the spanish colonial style in general.

Don't like the fireplace, maybe it's the angle but the huge bottom slab seems disproportionate. Furniture seems stuffy too.
