It doesn't really bother me on the pretentiousness front. I'm all for collecting art, and I think that I just saw two big-head paintings by the same artist today in a gallery in my town. In person, they were really luminous and beautiful.

What bothers me about this place is that a lot of the surfaces look synthetic in these pictures. Fake wood ceiling? Fake-looking floors, weird walls here and there with plasticy stuff stuck on them.

And I'd like to see what this place looks like on its messiest day.

Wouldn't it be fun to turn a pre school class loose with crayons in some of these houses?

i'm all for collecting art. that's not what i find pretentious, it's the way the whole thing is put together that i find off-putting.

^^ I understand--you always express great taste on here and obvs appreciate art.

My post wasn't all that clear. I also dislike how this place is put together but am having a hard time putting my finger on why.

I agree with it being too contrived. It has this veneer of "look how arty we are".. it's being very gauche and ostentatious with its modernism, which is why it seems so damn OFF.. modernism should eschew that sort of thing.
