A Light-Filled Beach House on Long Island's East End Finds Inspiration Naturally

Architect Frederick Stelle, interior designer Thad Hayes and landscape architect Christopher LaGuardia collaborated on a family’s beach house in Water Mill, New York. Above: The living room. The oil at right is by Tadashi Sato. Club chair fabric, Glant. Sofa and daybed fabrics, Great Plains. Beauvais carpet.

The oceanfront elevation. “The house is sited between the Atlantic and a bay, so we arranged the public spaces to open to both views,” Stelle says. “Chris LaGuardia came up with the plan to raise the grade all the way around the house, which made it possible to create outdoor spaces at the main level.” Bernar Venet sculpture.

I like the space. I'd have to paint a few walls.

I'm not sure about the white walls in EVERY room, but all in all, I like it.

i really like the house itself, but the decor is much too serene for me. it doesn't seem very lively.

Love the setting, but the interior and the furnishings leave me cold. The spaceship chandelier would have to go - maybe Tom Cruise would interested in it for his foyer. It would remind him of "home".

I'd have to add some color on those walls, myself. Maybe an accent wall (hello 1990's!) here and there, at least.

I hate the exterior, though. Looks like a hospital or institution.

^ITA. If they changed the decor a little bit, it would be stunning.
