Default The Met home of the year

Top honors go to Karman Ng for a refreshingly modern design that speaks to mid-century sensibilities, cutting-edge trends, artistic expression and most of all the needs of his young family
When it comes to great design, cutting-edge and family-friendly are rarely associated with one another. Karman Ng, the owner of a fledgling design firm, husband and father, was determined to buck the trend. He aspired to have a home that could, as he says, “Host cocktail parties as easily as it could host slumber parties, and also one that felt warm enough for my family but ‘cool’ enough for our guests.”
It wasn’t easy. At 3,100 square feet, he was poised for an open plan home but with an odd-shaped lot on a downhill slope, the only way to go was a multi-level plan with small rooms. Karmanup for the challenge set out to maximize each room's functionality. With designs for clever built-ins, savvy storage solutions, and inventive lighting choices, each room of the home demonstrates careful space planning—plus a keen eye for modernist furnishings and the perfect palette.
The end result is the ultimate haven for his wife, Audrey and 4-year old daughter Madeleine and a home so impressive, so unique, so modern it deserves the coveted title, The Met Home of the Year.

i like it all.. except that hideous pink room.

the bathroom, for some reason, looks particularly restful.

Yep. I like it too except for the pink and teal atrocity. And, well, the garage? area outside does seem to be a bit too spartan and brutalistic. But easily fixed with some landscaping, etc.

I love it all except for the furniture in the first pic.

i love it. i want to move in. and then trash that horrible pink room.
i don't care if it's for a little girl. that's no excuse. i hate princessy rooms.

love the tv room/library. i've always wanted a library with a ladder.
