    Default Another Parisian pied-à-terre

Jorge Almada of Casamidy in San Miguel de Allende sent us photos of his recently redone Paris pied-à-terre, which he shares with his wife and design partner Anne-Marie Midy and their children. "The apartment is located in the former servants’ quarters of the Hôtel d’Hallwyl, a national historic monument and the last hôtel particulier built in the Marais. It was designed by the architect of Louis XVI, Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, in 1760. When we first saw the space, which had been renovated in a very generic way, we fell in love with the exposed framework and the terrace. In order to tone down the dry-wall effect, we painted the walls with Farrow & Ball London Stone. And instead of refinishing the floors, Anne-Marie had sisal carpets made to the largest possible dimensions. Throughout the apartment, we used shades of grays in order to accentuate the bits of color.”

Parts of it are smashing, and then...That terrace is the reason they bought it? I was expecting more.

Yep, again a failed project because of all the "interesting" objects placed
too deliberately and styles mixed too deliberately. No, just no.

too depressing and bland. mainly the fault of the grey paint on the walls, the large uninteresting carpets and the drapes. the headboard of the bed is really ugly, the rest of the furniture very dull. and the placement of the furniture seems artificial, i'd even say impersonal in a way.

for paris, and the marais, that's a pretty massive terrace. i would kill for a place in paris with a terrace and a view of the rooftops...

It could be wonderful, but it's lacking something. It's like a bunch of smaller ideas that don't cohere into one thing. Like a bunch of tableaux.

I really like some of it, especially the dresser with the purple throw rug, but a lot of it sucks just a little bit. I'd still take it!! Hello, Paris.
