    Default A High School home

    Location: Grand Rapids, MI
    Size: 1369 sq.ft.

Can you imagine living at high school? While it may be every sixteen year old's nightmare, Chuck and Holly were able to fully embrace the unique character of their new home. It is located in an old high school building originally built in 1872 which was converted to condos in 2005. The conversion was done with an eye on the past as the space retains some of details from the original use - their wood floors are from the boys gymnasium!

Soul-less shoebox, except for the bathroom.

What a great space! That bedroom in the inner courtyard needs some kind of window cover, unless they enjoy having the neighbors watch them, uh, sleep. Other than that, it's got some great materials.

I have an old elementary school in my neighborhood that would be perfect for this type of renovation! I love it. I have tried to get some business partners of mine to go in and buy the old school, but with the current economy and downturn in the housing industry, they are wiser than I am and refuse to invest right now...probably a good move actually. Nonetheless, I do really like this space, although the rooms do seem a little small.

Growing up, we lived next to our 3-4 story highschool that was not used after they built a new one for the town...our neighbors bought it, and used some of it for their dads business, and renovated a section for themselves to live, it was very very cool...

That is a great use of an old building.
