Default Ideas for my living room to office/studio transformation?

So I'm basically turning my living room into a home office/studio where I can formulate, having meetings and just generally be creative..

It was full of antiques, etc...which I'm moving out of the room...mainly because they're not comfortable and too expensive to maintain.

My budget isn't huge for this so....

    Things that I want...

I like canvas fabrics, and lots of light...translucent glowing things hehe..I prefer deep browns.

I also want a really long desk, about 9 feet long which I can work on and put my computer on...I'm thinking of putting 2 of these together

    I also need a meeting table/breakfast nook

I'm looking to replace our big screen TV with a flatscreen...but probably in a few more months, that will free up a lot of space

This is the northwest corner...and I'd consider it "done"

I was thinking of putting some lighting behind the curtain? But I'm not gonna bother with it now

I'm thinking of painting the inside of the fireplace white..and covering the mantle itself with paper roses or something..I kinda like the look of those rolled up tubes, I'm thinking of getting some maps or some other things to stack up there...maybe some sticks or bamboo? Otherwise I don't really know what to put in that corner

This is the wall where I want the desk on...I want to get some ceiling lanterns installed..any idea on cost for that?

I'm going to clear out the hallway too and remove the dog barrier, since I took the carpeting off the floor...he doesn't pee in here anymore lol

I also need some storage space...I have some cloth boxes hung up on one of the walls, but any more ideas?

    I also really love this

But I'm gonna make my own...I got a round light from Ikea and I'm just gonna glue some silk cocoons to it

NOOOO! Do not paint the inside of the fireplace white! It looks so great black with the fantastic light thingy in there. No.
Rest of it sounds pretty good. Are you doing the desk straight or L shaped?

Yeah I'm kinda half and half...maybe I'll tape up some white paper in there and take a picture and get some opinions..

I'm gonna do it straight, just a really long table...I've been formulating in the kitchen and that's starting to get hectic. I was looking at getting an office for around...a grand a month rent, but I figure...no office I'm gonna get is gonna have plumbing in the room, so what's the point? I might as well put that money into decorating.

you need some steel and glass up in that bitch. Lots of white too. Halogen overhead lighting to highlight sexy furniture and art on the walls.

    Clean, modernist funky, and clinical

get rid of the mirror above the fireplace and replace it with either a more modern mirror or some artwork (in a more modern frame).
other than that, i agree with what grimm said. change all the artwork. i agree it doesn't 'go' with what you're trying to achieve.
and don't paint the inside of the fireplace white.

I say paint the fireplace mantel something less hideous than bland wood, unless it's a really old antique fixture. I say white. It would contrast neatly with the black interior.

hmmm i'll paint the cord of the lamp black then

i think the mirror was expensive or something...i think without the mantel there it'll look a bit more "in place"? i'm gonna take down the artwork...just have nowhere to put it there now lol
