Do you let people smoke in your house or is the smell too much to take?

I voted 'I will make an exception now and then, but it's unusual'. But I probably should have said 'No' now.

Prior to having kids, I would have let someone smoke in the house if they were on holiday and it was cold out. When I say holiday, I'm talking about a visitor from another country where smoking is the norm and they smoke inside without thinking. But I do find that anyone else I know would automatically excuse themselves to go outside for a smoke so I never have to insist.

Of course now, with kids, it's outside always no matter what.

Never. And the relatively few smokers I know always go outside to light up so I've never had to ask anyone not to smoke in the house. I think smokers these days know it's not OK. I have a couple of comfortable chairs out on the verandah anyway so even in bad weather they can smoke without getting wet.

Yes, but when there is a non-smoker or a kid around everyone
    smokes outside...

It seems to be the Australian way these days doesn't it. I've made sure that we have comfy chairs under our verandah too so there's no reason why anyone should smoke in my house. I find a lot of smokers I know tend to smoke outside of their own house too.

Remember when it was common to smoke at your desk? A bit before my time, but I can't wrap my head around the concept of that.

No. As a former smoker, I'm both sensitive to the smell and tempted by it - it's just best not to go there. Plus, I'm very afraid of a possible house fire and I don't even use candles for that reason.

Yes, you can smoke in my house.

But tatoos are to be taken outside. Dogs not allowed, cats only, gay people may smoke only on the balcony, alcohol not allowed on Sundays or during Ramadan, vegetarians and fur wearers welcome.

The winds of political correctness stop at my front door. You come to my house you can do as you please. I'm not the morality police, a calorie counter, Greenpeace, the surgeon general, or anti anything except extreme self righteousness.

The only thing I won't put up with is classic rock. If you've got Don Henley or The Who or Pink Floyd on your MP3 player, expect to be given the boot.

Yeah, I do, since I smoke and so does my fiance'. And my oldest two kids. (28 and 21) Believe it or not, though, non-smokers come into my house all the time, and express disbelief that we smoke in the house because they say it never smells like it.

(shrug) Maybe we just don't smoke that MUCH in here...and we don't smoke menthols either, so it's not as clingy.

No never. We don't smoke, we have a kid that lives in the house and I hate the way houses smell when people smoke in them.

People can go in the front driveway if they want to smoke and throw their butts in the trash, not in my yard or driveway!

No one is allowed to smoke ever anywhere on the property. I'm extremely sensitive to it and it makes me quite ill. There are no exceptions to that rule either!

Nope. I used to smoke and never smoked in the house or in my car. You can't get rid of that smell.

Same here. And I can't believe I used to smoke. I quit 20 years ago. Can't be anywhere around it now.

I think the smell of cigs is even worse than pot (and that is really bad)

I bought a really lovely 2-bed apartment once that had been very expensively and tastefully done up by the owner including some pricey pure wool axminster carpets that were virtually brand new. Unfortunately the owner smoked (heavily) and despite several attempts to steam and/or dry clean those carpets they still stank and they had to be ripped out and thrown away. You can never get rid of that smell, ever.
