Default Reconsidering an Edward Durell stone residence in Dallas

John and Jennifer Eagle commissioned architect Russell Buchanan to restore and update the historically significant but imperfectly preserved Oak Court, as the Dallas house was named in the 1950s when Edward Durell Stone designed it. Ripe for a sensitive renovation, the house still had its most important features intact, such as the striking brise-soleil. “Rarely does an architect leave a perfect framework to use as a guide,” says Buchanan.

That's what I wondered. Except I thought it was maybe the resting place for budding Xenu's.

It's a little too modern for me.

The bathroom looks like a head injury waiting to happen. Throw down a bathmat.

I know exactly where that house is. A childhood friend of mine lived around the corner. Back in those days it was a fucking disgrace.

It's a very interesting house architecturally but it doesn't look very practical.

Anyone in DFW wants to see it, it's between the DNT and Inwood on Park Lane at the intersection with Meadowbrook, in the 5200-5300 block.

I don't get the whole turning a nice family home into a futuristic hospital thing.

That house was never a "nice family home". Most houses in that neighborhood aren't. They're estate-sized properties. Some houses on those streets have features like moats or helipads. Yup. No shit.

Some houses in that neighborhood are so well-known or prominent that they're known by a name instead of an address. Seriously; it's fucking ridiculous. If you're ever in the Big D, I recommend driving down Park Lane between Preston and Midway. It's jaw-dropping. That house will be visible on that stretch of road. It's not a 'hood of 50s/60s tract homes on half acre lots.

i'm having flashbacks to james bond's escape pod thingie at the end of one of the really old movies, can't remember which one right now.

it's still a pretty fucking amazing house though. maybe not to live in but it's an architectural jewel and i'm glad it was restored.
