Default The woman who views her home as a gallery

Karen Justis says that she views her home as a gallery, saying that, "Art is of primary importance and everything else is a backdrop."

In the entryway, sculpture by Antony Gormley, with etched glass banister and stairs leading to the other two floors of the home. (Marion Brenner / The Chronicle)

The piano gives scale to the third-floor living room, which is also home to a Sol LeWitt sculpture (Marion Brenner / San Francisco Chronicle)

The view from the street, owner Karen Justis opens the anodized aluminum front door. (Marion Brenner / San Francisco Chronicle)

The 66-foot stainless steel counter that runs the length of the house. (Marion Brenner / The Chronicle)

Looking from the master bedroom onto its private patio. (Marion Brenner / The Chronicle)

The predominantly stainless steel kitchen with cabinets from Bulthaup; the sculpture is by Ernesto Neto. (Marion Brenner / The Chronicle)

The master bath with an Italian Agape tub. (Marion Brenner / The Chronicle)

The Art Show / The whites and grays of this modernist house make the vibrant art collection literally stand out

It looks very sterile, cold even, despite the fact that I kind of
like the individual pieces. No plants AT ALL!!!

There are elements of this home that i love, but the whole thing seems so impersonal and cold.

I like some aesthetic design elements of the house, but it's a HOUSE.. not a home... it looks too sterilized.. I'd be afraid to make a mess or kick my shoes off and relax.

I don't see that her art collection is very vibrant at all-might make a difference. Maybe. Sorta.
