    Default Madonna's New York apartment

What I wanted most was just to love my environment,” says Madonna of her apartment in an unassuming brick building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. As conceived and executed by the creative hand of Christopher G. Ciccone, her younger brother and most trusted confidant, the apartment is a low-key yet glamorous sanctuary, a place that allows her, once inside, a temporary escape.
Madonna entrusted her brother with the design of her Los Angeles house (she gave him ten days to do it) and never thought of having anyone else envision and execute the New York space. “Who could I have more in common with than someone I grew up with?” Madonna says of her choice of designer. “We like the same things, from music to what we eat.” Although Ciccone has no formal art training, he designed the stage sets for the Blonde Ambition tour, which was the setting for the documentary Truth or Dare, and he is an artist in his own right. But he is wholly self-taught in the area of interior design.
Ciccone knew early on what he wanted to do. “I wanted to create a New York apartment. In Los Angeles the living spaces are big, wide open. There are loftlike attributes to them, and also the feeling of living in a penthouse. In New York I wanted to make a space for her that was elegant without being weak, peaceful without being boring. She prefers New York to Los Angeles because when she’s here she can relax. There’s a city here—you feel you are with people, living with the rest of the world, not confined to an automobile. But it still had to be a place she would feel safe in. Even though there’s a view of Central Park, you don’t feel exposed to anything.”

Better than Sting's place, but it still has that over decorated look.

    Honey, do you ever sleep?

I remember this apartment from the Truth or Dare documentary. The decor hasn't really changed much. It's mostly not my style but I do like the bathroom, the hall and the kitchen. Where's the bedroom?

Haha I live in NYC and if a "New York" apartment is what he wanted to make, he should have gone all the way. Start with a closet, partition it into 4 or 5 rooms, and try to cram all sorts of random things in where they will fit. Get furniture on Craiglist, appliances on Freecycle. And relax and enjoy!

The only thing good about that kitchen is the appliances. The cabinets look like laminate and the uninspired cheap tile pattern on the floor is horrible.

    The bathroom is lovely, though.

Kitchen, hallway and bathroom are my favorite rooms.
    The rest is blegh.

Can't get over all the naked paintings. Yet, it is Madonna.

it has good bones, but it looks like it was decorated by an early 90's drag queen.

The hallway is the only good thing about this apartment. I would expect more from Madonna, but I guess this is what you get when you "hire" someone with no real experience or training to design your house.

In a word, cold. Just like her. The only redeeming feature for me is the bathroom door.
Into the sunrise. The sunset is sad to me….it only means the night is coming.

I love the bathroom. I think all of the rugs are hideous.
I'm not quite drunk enough to really care, but is this her violation of her violation of her violation of her violation of probation or her violation of her violation of her violation of her probation????? ~MontanaMama on LL's latest arrest.

I completely agree about the kitchen! Hate the cabinets and ugly floor! I like the clawfoot tub and the floor in the bathroom, but I HATE that marble in the shower. It looks like a calico cat, which is not what I want to think about when I shower.

The rest of the house looks kind of uninspired. Exactly what you'd expect from someone who has no interior design training or experience.
