    Default Need centerpiece ideas!

I've been assigned to create 11 table centerpieces for a "Store Manager's Conference", and would love any ideas out there!

The theme is "resort". They have already made 4 centerpieces for the corner tables that are fairly large, and mine need to be "lower". The already made centerpieces are a 2 1/2 ft. palm tree, with tiki torches, a monkey, and sand. Mine are to "compliment" these....

The tablecloths are all very colorful, solid colors, bright green, orange, yellow.

Candles are out. I'd love to use live fish, but apparently that's a "faux pas". I can "make" just about anything, but the idea is what I'm struggling with!

They'll have a steel drum band and palm trees.

    Help!

you could do one with seashells...another one with a glass vase, rocks inside with water, etc.

When I "googled", I didn't run across any of those, and they're nice! Thanks, keep 'em coming!

You could always make gel candles to look like tropical drinks, like the Blue Hawai'i:

Buy the gel at Michael's craft store, add blue food colouring, add to glasses and put umbrellas in, Aloha!

^ With live fish, what happens to them at the end of the night though? Some crowds might have enough people keen on taking them home, but in most cases at least some of them end up getting flushed. I think that's pretty cold and wasteful. And I know I wouldn't want to do that as part of the catering or clean-up crew, I'd be extremely pissed about being put in that position actually. I think whoever designs/procures the live fish centerpiece should have to take responsibility for the fish at the end of the evening. If you plan on doing that, that's cool.

Also though, a lot of people find looking at live fish while they eat a bit of a turn-off. They're also not a good choice for a party that may have kids in attendance (I'm assuming that's not the case here, just throwing it out there). I've heard a lot of stories of the kids scooping out the fish, throwing them around, playing with them (ultimately killing them), tossing food into the bowls, etc.

I love the first two pics that cmmdee posted.

^^LOL! I reread the OP and changed my answer...and I wondered if I'd still get responses. Thanks Tati, I agree, tho I'll be willing to bet SOMEONE would bring those fish home for their youngsters.

Using live animals will get the petards all riled up too.
I like that glass/sand/shell idea too, maybe with some brighter tropical colours, coral, orchids, etc. It's elegant and discrete (and cheap!).

    What cmmdee posted

I looked at Martha Stewarts site and she had a low bowl of candles and orchids. Take out the candles and float orchids or tropical flowers and add shells? That's beachy.

Ohh, I love the limes. I'd do those with tropical flowers in a second.

From the Oriental Trading Company catalog:

I love the fruit ones (lemons, limes) with flowers. Or fresh cranberries. Also, nice, short square vases with stones in the bottom, filled with water and flowers with the stems cut very short.

I love unusual tropical flowers, maybe incorporate a lot of those into the
centerpieces. bold and colorful ones for more impact. Not sure how costly
that would be but I think it would be a great idea.

    I found these from
wedding flowers, centerpieces, table decor, hawaii wedding, wedding florist, reception flowers, weddings in hawaii

    and then this one from
    Peacock's on 37th Flower Shop

I don't know how big or how small your talking but I'm sure you can do
tropical flowers in a variety of sizes or just mix them up with other things you
    decided to do.

I was given a lot of flowers at my grad party, but my favourite was simple and inexpensive -- a low, half-moon shaped plain vase filled about one third with cranberries, some water added, and two large white chrysanthemums on top. It was simple, stunning and elegant.

These are all great ideas! I appreciate all of the help.

I'm heading out today to do some price shopping.
