Default Love It or Hate It?

Talk about making size matter! The ginormous Motherlamp ($2,800) is available in natural wood veneer and polycarbonate and will just about dwarf everything in whatever room it's suspended. This may be a great choice for well-feathered loft dwellers who need to do something with all of that space.

I wish we had our homes section, but I'll just stick this here for now.

    It's kinda...huge!

Wow, how big is the bulb you need for that?

Actually, I'd like to see it in a home for context. Might look ok in the right place, like a huge castle or something. Still, not my style.

If you had a huge room with a very high ceiling and it was done with a 'modern' decor..maybe like a renovated loft or something redone in a very 'moderne' way ...I think this would be good then. This looks like it would fit with that modernesque lodge house in Rapid City in North by Northwest

I don't like it. And why is it so expensive if it's wood veneer? Isn't that like a fancy way of saying thin plywood? It's ugly to me either way. Reminds me of the fake wood veneer walls we had in our 60's/70's mobile home.

I guess the wool veneer finish throws me off... if it had a black lacquer finish or something, I'd be inclined to like it more.

yeah. i can definitely see it working in the right space.
the price is a bit steep though, for what it is.

In the right space it would work, although I'm not digging the brown. Brown is ugly.

Pure Austin Powers - YEAH BABY!!!! (and I hate it but then again I have an aversion to overhead lights anyway. It's table or standard lamps all the way for me)

Agreed on overhead lights. They make people look horrible. My interior designer friend only puts them in the houses of clients he hates.

Hey I am surrounded by those! (And it is called PANELING! Every house in the 70's that had a basement had it!) And if it is wood veneer it cannot be 'fake'..as veneer refers to a thin layer of REAL wood..as opposed to a thin layer of fake wood or vinyl made to look like wood(which would then be, fake veneer). Plywood is just layering of thin sheets of wood, so just one layer is not plywood. Real wood veneer is just a very thin layer of real wood.

I agree it does seem a bit pricey though.

    I don't know...I wouldn't wanna be under that thing.. I don't love the wood
texture either, but I love the simplicity. Maybe smaller and an even color all
around. I'd like to see it in a setting because it's hard to imagine it anywhere
    in this photograph.

I will ammend my opinion if that is not a real wood veneer. For that price it better damn well be a real wood veneer.

*I would kind of hesitate to be under it too. Just like those humongous chandeliers with all that cut glass/crystal..they are always falling on someone in movies..
