    Default Ocean House in Hawaii

Ocean House in Hawaii by Olson Kundig Architects

Inspired by traditional Balinese palaces and temples, this house sits on a beautiful promontory of exposed lava. Tropical design concepts and time-honored building practices were used to fit the house naturally into its setting. The lava base anchors the house to the site, while the roof planes appear to float in the sky. Broad overhangs protect the interior from the sun, while sliding window walls open to unite inside and outside and cool the house using existing breezes. A river of hardened lava runs through the site and symbolically connects the house to important Pacific culture sources of energy; the mountains and the sea

I get a little annoyed by all the "zen" pieces... I don't need random statues praying or meditating in every damn room!

I like the house, but not the decor.

If it's Hawaii, it wouldn't matter what the house looked like because I would never be indoors anyway.

If I wanted to visit a zen museum I would do so. But, I don't want to live in one.

    1. Is it a house or a museum?
    2. Nice view, but all I can think of is TSUNAMI!!!!
    3. It's pretty, but again, a bit too close to the ocean (TSUNAMI!)

Seriously? LOL. At least you'd get a good view of it coming.

The only thing that makes this vaguely "Balinese" are the statues. The owner must be a collector. It is lovely but without the Tsunami View it would just be another glass and wood box.
