Default The House With a Japanese Maple Tree in Melbourne

The House With a Japanese Maple Tree in Melbourne by Andrew Maynard

One of the Australia’s brightest architects, Andrew Maynardan, designed this elegant and compact single-family residence located on the Moor Street, in Fitzroy (one of Melbourne’s suburbs). The new house, kept some of its old characteristics, such as the street façade, the original brick terrace and an old Japanese maple tree (located in the courtyard).

Too clinical. Expensively done, but clinical.

I have an uncle who is an architect. This looks like something he'd design. Therefore I like it.

Another example of an old "heritage" frontage with a modern box tacked on the back. They don't always work but this one does - I like it and I agree it cost a fortune no doubt. Fitzroy is full of trendoids so this would suit most of them.

No warmth, no soul. It's a Stepford house.

The lines are too sharp in these types of homes. It's gorgeous to look at or maybe hold a party but I can't imagine being comfortable living there. I love the cleanness if that's what they are after, just more prefer the smoother lines in vintage Danish modern a la Don Draper's apartment on Mad Men.

I agree Sput I really like the juxtaposition of the old front & interesting back. Even the clinical minimalism appeals to me in this place as my visit to Australia was just SO hot...
