Playing With Volumes: The Black and White Connaught Residence in Montreal

Connaught Residence, located in Notre Dame de Grâce, Montréal, was a dull, concrete house built in the ’50s that needed an substantial upgrade. The owners, a growing family, wanted a more spacious and contemporary home. They also mentioned that they would love to keep a certain harmony and the new design had to blend somehow with the old house’s original design line. Naturehumaine, the firm responsible with the renewal, after a careful analysis, found the solution for this problem. In order to expand the living space, the architecture firm decided to start with an extension. The intervention also consisted in re-organising the interior, to make it more comfortable and inspiring.

It's cool but it doesn't look like anyone lives here. I guess they took the pictures before they moved in. It needs artwork and personal touches.

ok, that's not a house for children. the white paint would be gross within a week with kids dragging their dirty hands down the walls as they go down the stairs and just wander in general... HATE that kitchen and the bath...

Bet there is Yoga going on in that house, cuz it looks like a ascetic yoga/meditation retreat, not a home. All it needs are wind chimes.

I am getting so bored with these endless glass box houses. Agree it's not a house for kids and needs at least some personal touches. It looks beautifully constructed but it has no soul. Maybe that was the intention. Also, flat roofs generally are Bad News. They always start to leak eventually and are buggers to fix.
