Tiled Barcelona apartment wins World Interior of the Year 2013

Inside Festival 2013: a Barcelona apartment renovation with triangular patterned floor tiles has been named World Interior of the Year at the Inside Festival in Singapore.
The floor of the Carrer Avinyó apartment by London studio David Kohn Architects is covered in triangular tiles that gradually change colour from green to red across the space.
The architects designed the apartment as a holiday home for two brothers who live in Hong Kong. They removed the internal partitions to form a large living area and restored the original ceiling mouldings.

I can't even tell what the gold doors do? What purpose do they serve?

I thought it was an extra shower, but evidently it is not. Perhaps a radioactive cleaning station? Corporal punishment for the kids?

It's pretty amazing. I want to see more of it.
the gold and glass doors are the foyer - you can see the front door of the apartment behind it.

I would totally use it as a cleaning station when I get home. Apparently, it's just the vestibule.

This is really confusing. The shelves on the upstairs landing are on casters, so where do they roll to so one can use them? Cooking in that kitchen would result in injury (for me) with that big honking metal staircase in the middle. Makes sense the space is designed for two bachelor brothers.

I can't stand those floors. They look like something a mall would throw down at Christmas time.
