Default Taylor Swift purchases $17million beachfront mansion

Taylor Swift has been seen in the last few weeks shopping for property in Rhode Island and it appears she has settled on a mansion officially listed at $20million.
But the pop singer is apparently a savvy negotiator and got the new home for much less than its asking price.
Taylor is said to have purchased the property in full for $17.75million with a single payment via wire transfer.

Mansion on the hill: The property looks over the rocky shores of the Atlantic

According toTMZ, the transaction took place earlier this week.
Real estate insiders told the gossip website that movers were seen as early as Saturday at the beachfront property, located in the upmarket seaside community of Watch Hill, Rhode Island.
But whether the mansion is a new home for the willowy blonde is questionable - the purchase may simply be a smart investment.

Taking a tour: Taylor (far left) was seen looking at the property two weeks ago

View from the shore: The property sits atop an idyllic New England beach

Taylor bought a home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, which allegedly was intended to keep her close to then-boyfriend Conor Kennedy.
But the Red singer put the house on the market in the wake of her September split with the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy and sold it last month.
The sale was reported to be a $1 million profit.
A source told Vanity Fair that the house in Massachusetts was ‘like a house-flip’ and was a ‘good short-term investment.’

Quite the view: The 11,000-square-foot mansion sits atop five acres in the upmarket seaside community of Watch Hill, Rhode Island

Sweet spot: The property features many amenities, including a large swimming pool

Fully loaded: The home features French windows and high ceilings

Not a first time buyer: This is the fourth home the 23-year-old has purchased

But Taylor, whose earnings last year topped $57 million according to Forbes, could certainly afford to live in the home.
The white mansion is reported to be over 11,000-square-foot and sits atop more than five acres - and would make an excellent vacation home for her famously close family.
Although, the country singer already owns a home in Beverly Hills, California and a penthouse duplex in Nashville, Tennessee, which she considers her main residence.

Location, location! The mansion borders two beaches in the summer hot spot

What does she need so much house for? Ugly jumbled thing. Nice spot, though, obviously. If you like everyone looking at you...

I wonder what guy she's stalking lives nearby.

It's a dumb move, financially, unless she takes out a loan immediately.

no, actually it's not. not at that level of cost. you only get the mortgage tax deduction for $1 million of mortgage debt. (and that's cumulative, even if you have more than one home, which she does)

a cash sale usually means a discount, which she got, and aftertax return on that size investment will be greater than aftertax cost for the mortgage.

the bankers and wall streeters that i know often recommend it and do it themselves.... her dad's a financial adviser, an extremely successful one. i'm sure for them it's a positive, not a negative.

Wow, Witchy, thank-you. All the advise I've ever heard is to not tie up your liquid capital in real estate. It still seems foolish to me for Taylor to tie down 14-17 million on only one asset, even if she is worth 80 million and expecting a lot more. Guess the perspective is so far out of my range I can't fathom it.

Well, that goes without saying, but I was wondering if there was a specific number?

Also, how many bathrooms for showering in while you are wearing a 1920's style swimsuit that goes to your knees?

Does she own any of the beach front in front of the sea wall? That looks like about $2 Million worth of erosion control with the sea wall, the boulders and all the shrubbery.

i think that might be the plan here as well. even if she hangs on to it a year or two, if she makes a a few million in profit she's had excellent return.
