I have returned to being a makeup whore and need a vanity table ...

I hate to sully all of Honey's wonderful posts in this forum, but this seemed like the only place it fit. So take pity on me.

I have pretty much been a makeup whore since I was allowed to wear makeup. I LOVE makeup and I would never leave the house without it on my face. Sixteen years of marriage and a son later, I realized (after a life change) that I barely put it on anymore. I went on a shopping spree at Sephora a few months ago and haven't stopped. I now have too much makeup to fit into two giant Sephora train cases. Love, love, love makeup but I'm running out of space and have bought a few eyeshadow palettes that don't even fit in the cases (Urban Decay's Naked palettes rock!). And there's still things on my "desperately want" list.

I'm looking for a vanity table/desk. With lots of drawers. And maybe a good point in the direction to some in-drawer organizers to make sure everything is ready at hand and neatly organized. I don't want to pay too much but am willing to pay more if I love it. My bedroom furniture is oversized and the bedroom is an average size. I do have wall space to put the vanity table (and I wouldn't mind buying an actual desk that I can hang a mirror over either) but I would like it to be as low profile as possible so as to not make my bedroom one big furniture clusterfuck. Another must is that it must be black wood (preferably "rubbed" black wood so it matches my current furniture). I have clinically diagnosed OCD and the vanity not matching would drive me insane. I can live with unrubbed black wood but it must be black wood. Also, I'm really not into the girly, princess-y style vanity tables that is 90% of what comes back in a Google search.

Impossible? Can anybody help? I've looked everywhere I can think and have been stalking Home Goods every now and then hoping for some rare find.

Get a couple of unfinished pine dressers from Ikea, the Rast dressers, get sandpaper, brushes, cloths you don't mind staining, a can or two of Minwax waterbased Wood Stain in Classic Black and also the clear water based top coat. Go to IKEA Hackers for inspiration.

I used a narrow console table, hung a morrow over it et voliá:- dressing table.

The only vanity tables I've seen in years are child-sized novelty things or godawful repros. Either hunt some estate sales, or make do like the others suggested.

Yeah, go to estate/garage sales this spring and summer. Went to my first one today on my walk; nothing good but I usually stop in at all of them during the summer when I'm out on my bike. I've found some nifty stuff.
