    Default An apartment in Rome

An Italian couple turn a 19th-century apartment into a sleekly contemporary spaceóbut as with everywhere else in Rome, the past is ever present

In the living room of Paola Massardi and Andrea Secciís Rome apartment, the free-form Moraine sofa is by Zaha Hadid. The artworks are by Javier GarcerŠ, Domenico Bianchi, Marco Tirelli, and Mimmo Jodice.

The 19th-century apartment building abuts the ancient Baths of Agrippa.

The free form design sofa in the first pic must be a joke. At least the designer must be laughing his head off that people are so in pursuit of "design" that they don't care that sitting on the floor will be more comfortable.

i love this. the bathtub looks uncomfortable as hell and there's nothing exactly homey and comfortable about this space but it works and overall it's pretty fantastic.

    avant-garde people?

they don't look like they do too much tv watching. the whole thing doesn't look too comfortable. at all. it is pretty cool though.
maybe they have a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf, with la-z-boys and a giant tv?

I'd maybe like the place if that were the case.

I really hate it. Too much white, complemented by ugly tiles, and furniture that looks thoroughly unwelcoming. In fact, the whole thing looks unwelcoming.

I don't like it. I''m all for avant garde but this just doesn't do it for me. It doesn't excite me or welcome me at all. It's not cohesive. It looks like they just bought any type of furniture that is quirky and "avant garde" and just threw it in this apartment. The only thing I like is the bookshelf and the kitchen (I think) - the room with the beautiful chandelier and antique mirror.

I'm all for either edgy or historic and in fact possibly both together but this doesn't work for me at all either. I think the white stuff is to compensate for the overall darkness and cramped feel with the 'ancient baths' looming over and practically inside the place.

    I bet it's haunted!
