Default A Historic Home in the Center of Bruges

Jock Fistick for The New York Times
This four-story three-bedroom home, draped in vines and dating to 1895, is in the center of Bruges, Belgium, and is on the market for $1.35 million.

Jock Fistick for The New York Times
The great room on the street level, which was formerly the art studio of the Belgian painter Florimond Van Acker, is currently used as an art gallery. An immense working fireplace of carved oak has a 17th-century painting of two Flemish men on the overmantel.

Jock Fistick for The New York Times
Paintings of half a dozen quotations are original to the home. This phrase in Old Flemish, according to the agent, says that in this parlor, the Flemish heart and friendship go hand in hand.

Good bones, but I'd totally redecorate that place.

When I think of Bruges I remember the nuns walking across the greenest grass, the air near the plaza actually did smell like waffles, chocolate and whipped cream and those beautiful canals. That place is a postcard. I'd like a pied a terre there please.

What is up with Burges? I have never heard of the place. Is it a crappy town to live in? I love the house except for what I consider weeds growing on the outside of it. Those need to go.
