Default In Paris, a Home Far From the Tourist Center

Ed Alcock for The New York Times
Julia Jeuvell and Tom Budding have both worked in contemporary art, and believe that “everything looks good in white.” The couple paid about $700,000 for their loftlike apartment on the northern end of the 18th Arrondissement in Paris. They spent $70,000 on renovations.

Ed Alcock for The New York Times
The apartment building is in a former electrical cabling factory that was converted into residential units in the 1980s. The couple’s apartment on the second floor extends to the bridge, where the couple have their bedroom. The apartment overlooks an ivy-covered courtyard.

No, it's practically devoid of colour except in the bathroom where it's too much of the wrong colour.

Looks like a hospital in 1950. No thanks. Way too cold and uninviting.

this post so cracks me up. I totally agree. WTF is up with the books?

Oddly, I don't mind the bathroom at all. But that bedroom looks like a morgue. Ugh.

I *would* still spend a weekend here. Cuz the space itself IS awesome, and the light.

I LOVE that courtyard. Too bad the entire place looks so sterile and pretentious.

That's a significant sized bathroom for Paris. BIG yes on the space, no on the decor.

NO to the decor, and that bathroom? Ick NAST! They couldn't bother to clean the grout before they took these damn pictures?! That looks like years of mildew and dirt on that tile and tub, ugh. Hell, get rid of that tile and replace the tub.

But it is in Paris, and I like the courtyard.
