Default In Bermuda, a (very pink) Manor Home

Ann F. Spurling for The New York Times
The entrance to the Manor House condominiums has winding stone steps. The house was built by a Wall Street banking tycoon around 1929. It was a hotel before its conversion to condominiums.

Oh My Goodness! As if the pink itself wasn't bad enough, they had to actually show us the kitchen which is tragic beyond words.

Dated doesn't begin to describe it. Good bones but man, it needs a helluva lot of work.

Compared to the space in the rest of the house, the kitchen looks like a coat closet. WTF? I'd still take it and re-do the hell out of it - the views from the patio!!!!!

I don't even know if the location is enough to save all that ugly.

Aw, that's sweet, decorated by my grandmother. She passed away last summer at age 99, I never knew she had a spot in Bermuda.

Wow, really? All that "opulence" and a shitty little kitchen.

Why is the kitchen so small compared to the rest of the rooms? I love the pool.

because they probaby built it thinking the people who lived there would have maids and cooks and wouldn't spend any time in the kitchen themselves, so why splash out on a room that only the help will use?
the same thing happens here in chile. you get these huge, luxurious flats with these small, narrow kitchens and it's because everyone who can afford the flat has a live-in housekeeper/cook or at least someone who comes in every day.

Well, it said it was converted into condos, so I would assume there's a kitchen for each unit rather than that being the kitchen for the entire Manor. At least I really hope so.

yeah but i think the same principle applies, just like it does for high-end condos in chile. when you do find big, comfortable kitchens, it's because the owners either specified that's what they wanted when it was built, or they've renovated and expanded the existing kitchen. and some flats have huge kitchens but they're still set up so that they're adjacent to the service bedroom(s) and don't usually include a dining area the way we're used to seeing.
