The Real Estate thread
Here anyone interested can discuss manufactured homes, refinancing, interest rates housing bubbles, foreclosures, precon, best places to live etc...
And maybe this will grow into a new topic area like the politic area!
I know it is not really called area, I am anal is all!!!
Right now,
I am curious of what the rates are right now, not because of this or that, just curious to know...any brokers agents appraiser around???
I am also thinking of buying stock in homebuilder companies, Toll Bros, etc...
never bought stock, not sure where to start....
Anyone game???

Re: The Real Estate Thread
Most of the small businesses are going bankrupt in Bali since the bombings. It's sad -- it is an incredible place and most of the people are genuinely kind and nice.

Re: The Real Estate Thread
Of course, you must remember that foreign nationals are NOT allowed to legally own property in Indonesia. You have to get an Indonesian you trust a LOT, to buy it for you. One of my closest friends married an Indonesian man, and I happen to know a fair bit about this.

Re: The Real Estate Thread
Non Permanent Residents aren't allowed to own real estate in Australia either so don't set your heart on that beach house here either.

Re: The Real Estate Thread
I work in real estate/rentals (and the general market may be slightly different here) but I can tell you that in this city by the sea '2 miles from the beaches' may as well be 2,000 miles as far as attracting holiday renters goes unless the house is immaculate and in a very nice neighbourbood and near shops, restaurants, transport, etc. You might get a tenant, but you certainly won't get a premium rent sufficient to finance yet another mortgage (I thought you were trying to reduce your debt?). You will be lucky to find a condo that accepts 2 large dogs and if you do, your neighbours will give you shit if they bark or cause any kind of noise/nuisance.
Anyway, I thought you were about to get a divorce from Captain Tantrum? Not a good time to be taking on more financial commitments.

Re: The Real Estate Thread
This is true; I don't know a lot about Indo, but my friend in JKT has to
put his property in his wife's name (she's a naturalized citizen).
But if she dies, he doesn't inherit it because he's a foreigner --
the government takes it over.
Of course, if you form a company and the company buys the house,
apparently that's legal -- so it's a valid loophole.

Re: The Real Estate Thread
If you can't afford to buy an 'investment' property outright (ie, cash) it's not an investment.
