Default Drew Barrymore buys $7m mansion

Drew Barrymore picked up quite a bargain in the New Year's sales.
The actress negotiated a $1million discount off her new home in Santa Barbara, bagging the luxury mansion for a discounted $7million.
The Mediterranean-style villa sits in the exclusive enclave of Montecito, where homes start at more than $2million.

New Year's bargain: Drew Barrymore's new $6.9m home in Montecito, Santa Barbara

Landscaped: The shaded patio area overlooks the gardens and will be the perfect spot to unwind with a glass of local wine
Drew is moving north of Los Angeles to one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in America.

New home: Drew Barrymore is moving to Santa Barbara

Amongst her new neighbours, she will find chatshow host Oprah Winfrey, and fellow actors John Cleese, Kirk Douglas, Steve Martin, Rob Lowe and Billy Baldwin.
Drew's new 72-year-old 3.5-acre estate boasts floor to ceiling windows in the stately dining room, overlooking a Roman-style pool and landscaped gardens.
Helping Drew take advantage of the long Californian summers, she will be able to sun herself under a wide tiled terrace, overlooking the surrounding wine country and Santa Ynez mountains.
With six bedrooms and five bathrooms, Drew can have plenty of guests to stay at her new home.
Going The Distance star Drew hasn't always been lucky with her property investments.
Back in 2001 her Beverly Hills home was destroyed by fire, leaving her staying in a rental for a year.
The 35-year-old now splits her time between her $8million home in the Hollywood Hills with panoramic views of LA and another in Manhattan.

Stately: The 72-year-old house boasts a dining room perfect for formal entertaining, although Drew may consider redecorating to her own taste

Room with a view: The Roman-style landscaped gardens outside the dining room

Drew will be living in the house alone, after finally ending her on-off relationship with Justin Long earlier this year.
But that shouldn't prove a problem for Drew, who recently told Harper's Bazaar: 'I was good in my early teens, and then I got really bad at being alone for like 10 years.
'And then for the last decade I've developed such a love of my independence that I have to go, "Okay, you've had dinner by yourself three nights in a row, now you have to see your friends."'

A place to call home: The private courtyard where Drew will relax

Hillside views: The house overlooks the surrounding wine country and Santa Ynez mountains

I know, Santa Barbara is amazing. So beautiful. The house seems kind of boring for the price and neighborhood. I do love those arches on the patio.

Where's the swimming pool? Surely it's not that little pond with the statue at one end? I'd want something more lavish than that for $7M.

It's nice and I love the patio, but it's a bit boring and overpriced.

I don't normally like hacienda-style houses but this one will be OK with some decent furniture, decoration and COLOUR.

She can go borrow a cup of sugar from Oprah.

Would I make craptastic films to live in SB? Yes, I would. It's that unobstructed view of the ocean on a mountain. Or I'd take a hill with an ocean view in Malibu. Don't matter to me.
