Default In Canada, a Log Cabin With Mountain Views

Farah Nosh for The New York Times
A two-bedroom Western red cedar cabin in Whistler, British Columbia, is on the market for 729,000 Canadian dollars (about $720,000). Situated on a sloped lot, the 1,260-square-foot home is accessed via stairs.

    Country kitsch tragic.

Really? With a fucking view like that you couldn't do something hot and modern?

I grew up in the snow and hated it so no matter how you dress up this place I wouldn't stay there.

    I love it.

I'm a sucker for any log home really.

I could see staying there for about a week during ski season, but it's very B&B/motel cabin chic. Nothing more, and certainly not $720,000 worth. Typical Whistler pricing I think.

Burn that shit hole, take the $720,000, plus content settlement of another $100,000 and build something suitable that doesn't look like a second hand, childs playhouse that would fit in my backyard.

Looks almost identical to my aunt's place up there, right down to the sofa

The places built up there in the eighties are utter crap. No insulation, crappy windows, cost an arm and a leg to heat. And always 300 stairs just to get to the front door!

Typical Whistler pricing is right. Although right now, apparently everything has dropped about 30%. Maybe it could be had for $500,000.

Boring. Plus, it has an ELECTRIC stove? That's all kinds of wrong in an abode with rustic pretensions.

Because that's all it is - pretentions. Will have electric baseboard heat as well, with a $500/month heating bill to go along with it.
