Default In Mumbai, a Place to Showcase an Art Collection

Ashiesh Shah, an architect who has designed spaces for many Bollywood actors in Mumbai, bought the apartment in October 2009 and spent 5 million rupees ($110,000) to convert the space from a two-bedroom cramped duplex to an airy one-bedroom studio. Knocking down a total of nine walls, “gave me freedom to place art pieces in a fluid, open space,” he said. Mr. Shah, 32, sits on a Kartell foam chair. On his left, a bronze Shiva idol from the 1800s rests on a custom-made mount.

Not at all - and I'm not a big fan of the inside. Too sterile.

The top pic makes you think it's really pokey but then you see the huge living area. Note the white marble stairs of death. The glasstop dining table clearly doesn't usually live in the kitchen rammed up against the oven door unless Mr Shah never cooks (likely).

Not much of a view. Scuzzy looking on the outside.

What is up with the translucent baby and giant umbilical cord hanging from the ceiling?

no, it's not. i've never been but my sister's fiancé is from mumbai and she's visited his family there and from what she tells me and the pictures she showed me it's a very diverse city, lots of different kinds of neighbourhoods, everything from cramped buildings to ultra-modern high rises to slums to gorgeous, huge mansions.
