Default Truman Capote's former house most expensive in Brooklyn

Or it will be if it sells for the $18 million asking price. The late author lived at 70 Willow St. in Brooklyn Heights for years, writing his most famous works in the very rooms you could now own.

Of course you'll be haunted by a ghost with a very high-pitched voice, which could get annoying. (Though Capote's ghost would, we imagine, be very happy with the house's elite status.) But otherwise, think of the inspiration! And think of the luxury. The Daily News writes:

With 11 fireplaces, parking for four cars, a mural copied from the Kennedy White House, a back porch and a garden like something out of a Southern estate, the Brooklyn Heights mansion is touted as the finest house in the borough's finest neighborhood. "It's like living in a country estate in the middle of New York City," said Karen Heyman, the Sotheby's broker selling the property. "It takes your breath away the minute you walk in."http://gawker.com/5535385/truman-capotes-former-house-is-the-most-expensive-in-brooklyn

Damn, if I had the spare cash I'd snap that up in a second.

    Lovely, just lovely. Overpriced.

Great place- they might come down on the price a bit.

It'll come down a bit. But it's worth it. It's in a neighborhood where apartments sell in the millions. It was for rent a couple of years ago for $40k per month.

Capote never owned it. He rented the garden floor.

Truman was not only a great writer but he was so exceptionally catty. I love reading about him. This would be cool to own, not just because he lived there but because it's a lovely property in a great location.

I know, that staircase is gorgeous. I love the whole thing, the beautiful wood floors, the big porch, the arbors and the brick patio. It's all amazing. Overpriced, but a really great house.

I doubt Capote had the fan installed, since he never owned the house. Ceiling fans on porches is very common where I live. The home I owned before, which was 20 years ago had a ceiling fan in the screened-in porch. Yes it is a nice touch!
