Default A former schoolhouse in Poland

three years ago graphic designer asia gwis and her husband sebastian (and 2 dogs and 3 cats) found this amazing 80 year old former schoolhouse in the countryside of poland. they moved it to warsaw where they restored it. the exterior remains an old, black cottage, but they’ve designed everything on the inside themselves, and filled it with treasures they have collected over the years. the hard work has paid off, and today we have a sneak peek inside. click here for many more images (in addition to the post), and you can find more of asia’s work here and here.

like! i really dig that low bed platform that looks like a pallet...i'd love something like that for a guest bedroom. love that dining table & chairs, too. also, it's kind of a dream of mine to live in a remodeled school.

creepy black and white decor..makes me think horrible things must have happened in that school... You can almost feel the trauma of countless Polish schoolchildren. Yikes!

I work in education and have actually dreamed of remodeling an old school house as a home. My ex-wife and I actually put in a bid on an old school before we divorced...it would have been awesome to live there. Some one else got it and completely remodeled it and it is amazing now.

I have to admit I am completely disturbed by the bathing products on the floor of the shower.

There are some old abandoned school houses in small towns all around here. Most are rundown but brick and would make great, unique, beautiful homes. I have thought that if I had the money it would be cool to renovate one. I like the brick ones particularly-they always have interesting architecture and patterns.

Too bad most of them will just continue to rot inside and be pulled down.

^yep, the one we loved was an old brick school house with great structure and amazing features. The new owners who spent a boat load of money on it even reconditioned the original school bell that was left behind. It was recently on a tour of homes in a small town outside where I live now and is just amazing. They even put in an old fashioned elevator to get you upstairs...it has the metal gate and exposed pulley system. Very cool remodel. They did a much better job than we would have done...of course, they probably spent a small fortune too.

Those stairs are frightening - the last two are a stepstool. Weird.

Heh, I didn't notice that. That looks real safe. I personally like the big goat head tapestry hanging by the bedroom. Yessiree, nothing says class like a hanging goat rug.
