Rainer Cole, a sculptor from London, bought this former fishing trawler, called the St. Michael, in 1995 for 5,000 pounds (about $7,750) and converted it into two apartments. When he bought it, the vessel was pretty bare with only an ice room, anchor room, fish hold, eight bunk beds for crew, a stuffy captain's cabin and no engine.
Mr. Cole, 49, bought the boat as a student at Camberwell College of Arts in London with a classmate. What started off as student quarters has turned into his permanent home.
The kitchen of the four-bedroom apartment is at the bow of the boat. The area was once a deck where fish were sorted and gutted.
