Default Garden home in Glendale has historic roots

    Glendale Schindler-designed house

( Susanne Hayek ) Rudolph M. Schindler designed this house in Glendale's Verdugo Woodlands for writer/composer Jose Rodriguez. Built in 1941, it is surrounded by gardens that even extend underneath the structure.

The bedroom looks like any hotel room you'd find. I like the outdoors though.

I mostly like the house--would like to see more outdoor pictures. I'm not sure I understand the totally unfinished look of the cabinets and other built-ins. I've never seen that before and don't love it.

The decor just isn't good. There are a few nice pieces mixed in there, but those dining chairs? The mission-style stuff? The little tables and ottoman thingies just bunched together? Kind of a mess.

Don't love it, but I do like the high windows all around. They add character to it and look like they might act as skylights.

I don't like timber ceilings and the cabinet finish looks like cheap plywood. And what the hell is that strange plywood/MDF object with the sheet music on it next to the piano? The outdoor green paintwork is foul but I like the gardens.
