^ 65 pounds?!?!? Why? Did you overindulge in your favorite foods? My sister said she ate like a mouse with her son because she was so nauseated throughout her entire pregnancy. I believe she only gained 25 lbs. With her daughter, she said it was the exact opposite because she had a good appetite and ate everything in sight. She gained close to 40lbs with that pregnancy.

Anchovies. Usually I hate them, but I scarfed them. I worked as a prep cook in an Italian restaurant when I was pregnant with my son. We had a large tin of anchovies in the walk-in, for caesar salads. I could wolf through that in about 15 seconds. They were expensive and my boss started hiding them from me. But I was on a mission! This lasted for about 3 weeks, then I hated them again, and I hate them still. Yechhhhh.... With my daughter, it was cinnamon toast, I would sometimes toast and eat a whole loaf a day. Lots of butter, lots of cinnamon. Cravings are wild.
Congratulations to all the pregnant GR ladies. You will love being Mommies...

A question about the luncheon meats: I never heard this about making them safer through heating. Just never occurred to me.
Does that mean that nuking the turkey I bought from the deli before putting it in a sandwich is the thing to do, according to the article?

re. deli meats: What I read was that you can get Listeria poisoning (similar to food poisoning) from them. If you aren't pregnant it's not really a big deal, you may just get sick for a day or two - if at all. However, if you are pregnant and you get food poisoning it can, especially in the first 3-4 months, lead to miscarriage.
I avoided all soft cheese for months until I learned that a lot of Feta is actually pasteurized. I've been on a feta binge since then!
I was also always told that you can't have any seafood or fish. What I learned later on is that you certainly can. You just want to limit your exposure to higher levels of mercury. My Dr. told me that you should avoid "bottom feeder" fish or fish that will commonly eat other fish as they will have higher levels of mercury. I also saw a study that children tested higher for math (I think) when their mothers' had eaten Salmon at least once a week during the pregnancy - omega 3 fatty acids. I tried to take a fish oil supplement but was completely disgusted when I started to burp up the taste of fish before 8am!!

Wow, a lot of us are expecting! I just started my 30th week...the countdown to birth has officially started (in my mind at least!).
I have noticed more aversions than cravings this time around. I can barely tolerate any type of meat right now. Especially red meat. I am not a big meat eater anyway, but I've always appreciated a great burger now and then. Not during this pregnancy! The thought of any meat...beef, chicken, fish...barf!
I also need my drinks to be SUPER cold. I put them in the freezer until they start getting ice crystals and turn sort of slushy. Mmmm.

Yes, that was part of it. I craved sweets a lot with her, especially ice cream. That and my hubby was making really good money at the time and we were going out to eat constantly. Another thing was that for some reason I swelled really bad with her-- LOTS of water weight. I did not swell nearly as bad with my other pregnancies.
I gained 39 lbs. with my first, 50 with my second, 65 with my third, and only 21 with my fourth.
I have never had morning sickness, which is a blessing and a curse.... if you're nauseas at least you don't want to eat all the time I suppose! Had a little bit of queasiness from time to time, but nothing too unbearable.
As for the 65 lb. weight gain, can you believe I had it all off (plus 20 lbs.) by the time she was 5 months old? I lost 85 pounds and got really skinny. Had a little bit of depression going on, plus taking care of 3 kids kept me running around a lot. Also did the Atkins Diet for a bit.
With my last little guy (he's one month old today ) I really tried to watch what I ate-- didn't want a repeat of the massive weight gain. Not to mention I was about 20 lbs. heavier than I wanted to be to begin with.
So far I've already lost all of the 21 lbs. of pregnancy weight (he was a big baby, so that was almost half the weight right there), and plan to start exercising to rid myself of the extra pre-preg poundage as soon as I get the okay from my doctor at my 6 week postpartum check-up.
Hopefully I will achieve my goal by Thanksgiving.

My friend's wife gained 90 lbs during her first pregnancy. She was hungry all of the time, even woke up in the middle of the night to eat. My friend always says how he has NEVER in his life seen anyone eat so much. He actually lost weight during the pregnancy because she would eat her food and then eat his too! She's pregnant with her second and is gaining normal and has an average appetite.
I had a normal appetite and didn't eat junk just because I was pregnant (lucky I didn't crave junk either). I gained 30 lbs and my daughter was nearly 9 lbs. I am hoping to be as lucky the second time around!
Every pregnancy can be different!

congrats, ladies!
i gained 29 lbs with my pregnancy (twins) and lost all of it a few weeks after delivery. i exercised throughout my pregnancy, no mandatory bedrest.
ate ice cream every day. i have always loved ice cream, but pounded it during pregnancy. and had a big aversion to overly spicy foods, which i normally liked.

I personally never had any cravings, but mom had some weird ones.
With me, she used to to suck on spoonfuls of coffee grounds (probably why I've never liked coffee), and with my sister, she liked to let Alka Seltzers dissolve straight on her tongue. Yuck!

Oh, CONGRATULATIONS to all of you expectant mommies!
When I was pregnant with my little girl, I craved sushi like nobody's business. Of course, they say not to eat sushi, but my craving was absolutely unstoppable. I talked to my doctor and she said "You can eat California rolls, unagi, ebi, crab stick, you can eat those every day, and every now and then, you can have a salmon or yellowtail, if you're at a reputable place!" and that's what I did. I ate California rolls every single day, with some real sushi now and then. The baby was fine, and I was happy. Because if I didn't get my sushi or maki, I was going to kill somebody.
Oh, and though it's been years and years since I was pregnant.....I still crave Japanese food. Only it's not as pronounced---strong cravings, yes, but not as merciless!

It's funny how some things stick after pregnancy; within the first couple weeks of my pregnancy I was having sushi with a friend and I just about threw up in my mouth when I ate a piece of salmon. I couldn't swallow it and had to try to get it into my napkin before I puked all over the table. I am no longer a fan of salmon.

Congrats to all the mommys-to-be!
I crave foods all the time anyway, but every morning when I was pregnant I had to have a bagel with cream cheese and ham for the entire time. I gained 27 pounds but my son was a whopping 9lb-5oz. butterball.
They also now say fish is great except for farm raised because of the stagnant water and mercury poisoning.

I've always loved fish and Japanese food in general, and now I crave it even more. However, since my pregnancy, my sense of smell is unbelievable (Mr. Lily says I have a Super-Smeller!). I also don't really want beef much anymore, since the baby.
