Re: Pole Dancing
Okay as the girl who started this debate let me give my 5 cents worth.
Yeah I've fassinated by strippers. I have a friend who is a bulesque dancer and another who works in a strip club. Hell the minute I turned 18 it was one of my favourite places to go to. And yes, part of the appeal of doing a pole dancing class is to learn to feel sexy, but the point is you do it for yourself and not for others. When I was a teenager I had the worst self esteem and for once I'm coming out of my shell and doing something that is fun that also gives you an excuse to be sexy (the camo hot pants and the knee high boots for example). Its the same thing with doing the Carmen Electra DVD's, hell its the same as doing any kind of dancing. For me its learning to be comfortable with myself and gaining back that confidence I lost. I understand the conotations that go along with pole dancing, believe me - In the past week I've had to defend myself to almost every woman that I know. I understand that it isnt everyones idea of fun - work out or otherwise. But really, when you're in class you're not infront of men, you're not up on stage, you're learning moves like any dancer would in a class full of women taught by a woman having a giggle while you're strutting your stuff. Even the end of course performance is only done for the people you've done the class with.
Its not like any of us are about to hit the stage in any gentlemans club any time soon.
Oh and for the record, Pole Dancing is a recognised competative sport.
