you should definitely get a pneumovax vaccine this year, at the least.

I think yawning is "safe" though, it's sneezing and coughing that spreads germs because you're expelling air, snot and saliva over a vast area at something like 100 kph.
Though yawning without covering your mouth is bad manners at least.

People are foul. They don't cover their mouths and noses when they cough or sneeze, they don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom, they "soldier on" and go to work sick and then everone else gets sick, they don't immunise their kids, they don't follow the instructions on how to take their medication and then we end up with drug-resistant viruses, they take sips of your drink without asking first... I could rant for pages here.

My Mr has developed a flu-y type cold... I'm keeping an eye on him, but he hasn't developed a curly tail yet, nor has he started squeeling....

I guess I am late to this thread! I am just now getting over the flu, I have had it now for 12 days! The funny thing is that the day I started sneezing, coughing and feeling icky was the day I was at the doctor for something completely different. I was in bed with a fever of 100-103 Tuesday - Friday, I literally felt to sick to go to the doctor. After the fever went away I still had this nasty cough that still lingering this morning. Beside the cough I now feel completely normal. I have an appointment to see my doctor next week so I will bring it up then..... my son is convinced that I had the 'pig flu'!

i was just reading about healthy kids dying within 36 hours of their first symptoms. really interesting. i mean these kids had no 'underlying issues'.
just out of the blue they up and die. i hope they do some studies and find a link. i find it so interesting that some people are asymptomatic on one side then others are dead so fast.
i wonder if they have a undiagnosed bacterial infection like MRSA.
a lot of research is going to be done courtesy of AH1N1 2009. i hope it will help us better understand how a virus kills, mutates, etc. and maybe we will be able to find a better way to fight future pandemics.
i do feel bad for those who die. sounds horrible if you read the reports on how the virus attacks the body. just awful.

An 11 year old girl died here today of swine flu. No underlying health condition reported.

A/H1N1v flu (also known as swine flu) has run a relatively mild course in most people. But for those co-infected with MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureous), it can be rapidly fatal. A 15 year old Buffalo, New York, boy with MRSA, who then contracted A/H1N1v, was western New York's first fatality. Another child diagnosed with both infections remains in critical condition at Women's and Children's Hospital in Buffalo.
MRSA has long been a problem in nursing homes and hospitals, but in recent years it has also begun to appear in other places where people gather. As far back as 2002-2003, clusters of MRSA were found in sports facility changing rooms in widely separated states. Of even greater concern, especially for children, is the growing incidence of MRSA infection in pets. A March 2008 article in the New England Journal of Medicine examined a case in which a woman with a deep non-healing abcess and her cat were infected with a genetically identical strain of MRSA. The woman's abcess healed only after the cat was treated with antibiotics. Recently, the British medical journal The Lancet reported that MRSA infections can be passed back and forth between people and their pets.
S. Aureous is not dangerous in itself. The CDC estimates that approximately 25 - 30% of all Americans harbor the bacteria in their nasal passages. Another 1% may carry the antibiotic resistant strain, MRSA. When a person infected with MRSA also contracts A/H1N1v, their likelihood of developing pneumonia is much higher than in the general population, because influenza interferes with the body's ability to fight off a staph infection in the lungs.
Doctors urge parents whose children have flu symptoms to alert them if the child or another family member is also infected with MRSA.
