Do you think this is healthy?
Ive been seeing commercials for Special K and Post Shredded Wheat saying if you eat two meals of the cereal and a balanced third meal you can lose 10lbs in about two weeks. Do you think its safe? I was thinking of trying it. My grandmother does that, she eats Special K for all her meals and she is 83yrs old.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
It would work for me, but I think I'd feel hungry unless I ate massive bowls of cereal, which would defeat the object....
I think it would be OK for the two weeks they suggest, but not longer term.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
I tried it and it didn't work because like Lil said, I was hungry, not enough to fill you up.
I think the thing that makes this diet work is the basis of two small meals a day and a normal one. Probably the same idea as slim fast - two small cans and a full meal.
The only diet that really worked for me was cutting down my carbs and eating plenty of chicken, tuna, salad and veg. You can lose a lot of weight that way.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
Same for me, I'd have to eat two boxes of cereal twice a day! I like the taste of Special K, but my stomach thinks it's only crunchy air, not real food

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
I just think that in general, your body needs variety. Two bowls of the same cereal every day sounds shady. Sure, a bowl of cereal in the AM is a great idea, but two a day? I'm not so sure.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
I dont think it will work for me either due to the fact if I have a bowl of cereal at like 8am Im sooo hungry by noon. Im going to try really really hard not to eat after 7pm. I have done this before and worked amazingly but Im older now so it may be harder.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
What would probably work better for me as a short-term diet would be having something that's about the same size/calorie-count as the cereal (which is quite small/low), but with a mix of protein and carbs, as well as variety. So fresh fruit with cottage cheese, one egg with a slice of whole-grain toast - very small and light, definitely "diet food", but a little more filling and varied.
An even better option would likely be to forget about the two-week thing - eat a little more, give yourself four weeks to lose the weight instead. The weight will still come off, but you'll be more satisifed, less likely to binge or feel fatigued. What's an extra two weeks, really?

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
^^ or even have an egg flip shake in the morning. I find that it keeps me full untill the afternoon. They're easy to make and you can flavour it with berries or banana. Just have it with low fat milk and dont put any sugar in it.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
Okay an Egg flip is made like this:
Take one egg and seperate the white and the yoke.
Put the yoke to the side and put the white into a cup. I usually use a whisk rather then a blender - one of thoes mechanical things or eanything you'd make a milkshake out of.
I Fluff up the egg white untill its a Meringue consistancy.
Then you add Milk - I flavour the milk before hand by blending in berries or banana, even vanilla essence or honey - depending on your tastes of course.
You blend that together slowly then add the yoke and blend untill its smooth.
Its the lightest fluffiest shake but because its raw egg its protein that fills you up while being really healthy - mainly because a lot of the good stuff in the egg gets burnt off when you cook it. I use low fat soy milk (or juice as someone put it) but if you use low fat milk you're getting a doubling effect as low fat calcium products like milk actually help to metabolise fat in your body. Its a great 'after work out' thing to have too, and a lot cheaper then thoes protien shake or breakfast shakes that you can buy in the supermarket.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
its a dumb idea and just a marketing ploy. no one can eat like that for very long. so what happens? you go back to your old way of eating after the six pounds are lost.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
Special K always trots out this commercial around New Years and I'm always tempted to try it. When I need to lose weight, it's very difficult for me to stay on a 'diet' until I see some results. I think what it's really designed to do is jump start your weight loss to get the motivation up and so you can take it from there and keep eating less to either maintain or continue losing. After you lose that first 10 eating that little, your appetite will probably have decreased, too.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
The concept of the two bowls of cereal is the assumed caloric deficit per day that would create weight loss.
I think you would be better off eating oatmeal for two meals - it's a carb and a protein (small but something).
Even better would be to add some eggwhites and maybe in the morning a few dried cranbeeies or blueberries.
Wheat and dairy are trick foods for some people to digest and/ or lose weight on.

Re: Do you think this is healthy?
Special K is utterly tasteless, unless you get the very delicious almond flavour, but if you get a good flavour, you only get 3/4 cup instead of a full cup per meal. I tried the diet and didn't even last two days I was soooooo hungry. When I think of all the amounts of food I could get for those 100 calories of Special K that could fill me up more, I realize that there are way better diets out there.
