Unhappy I have a mummy's legs!

I have VERY dry skin on and around my shins. Yesterday I noticed some redness on both legs but didn't look at it closely, and didn't put any body lotion either.
Today both my legs were still red and - again - I didn't take the time to look closely. Then in the afternoon it began hurting, it felt like slight burns. So I finally looked closer and saw that my skin is all cracked open Dry as it was, with the VERY cold weather we have these days, it didn't resist! I have like dozens of micro-wounds, and it hurts like hell now
I've put some sweet almond oil on it and then bandages so the clothes wouldn't brush on my skin, hence the title... I look like a mummy!!!
Anyone got ideas of what I could do to get my poor skin back to normal???

How about using polysporin/neosporin (antibacterial ointment) so that these little cuts will heal faster?
I'd use something that has a medical ingredient in it, since you actually have cuts, than some moisturizer.
You might wanna go see a dermatologist though if your skin hurts a lot.

I also have sweet almond oil but I put that on my hair on the dry ends.

Thanks moomies and A*O!
Before going to bed I put Solvarome on my legs (it's a mixture of essential oils that's been used "for ever" in my family to cure wounds), then early this morning the burning resumed and this time I put aloe vera gel. The smallest cuts have almost disappeared now, the other ones are still red and I guess I'll develop the most sexy little crusts in a day or two. I'll have to be very careful when I got out though

whatever you do don't take a bath.

if you can try to limit your showering as well, and the use of soap...it'll really aggravte the condition and can make it worse.

you can try a moisturizer with oatmeal or cammomile in it as well, as they're both natural anti-inflammatories.

i don't recommend using a cortisone cream though on such a large area.

you should be wary of the aloe vera gel... a lot of people are allergic to it, and don't realize and it's astringent too meaning it's drying - it's not a moisturizing ingredient as it's touted to be.

I totally neglect my legs. Whenever I've been on the sun bed I moisturise the parts that usually burn like my stomach, top of my back and my face but I am usually too lazy to do my legs and arms. I've got a circle of crusty dry redness on my leg now which looks horrid so I'm going to start being good to myself from now on!

It went away without having to endure the "crusty phase"
I can't stay away from water... I went to the swimming pool on the first days, then it closed but I went to the spa... but I put lots of mosturizer and now my skin is almost completetely back to normal. I'll have to moisturize more often though, even if I don't like to do it in winter!

Tiara, I never do my arms either. Make that a good resolution for 2006?

Is primrose oil for women for some reason? It's basically salmon oil though?
And have you heard of ester-C? Its like vitamin C but somehow meant for women...but why?
