Default Goof-up in Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip (#2 in series)

After I read all your posts about how wonderful Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip (#2 in the striptease series) is, I finally bought a copy and have started to use it as a fun way to return to exercise. (I used to be an exercise fiend, then stopped cold turkey... balance is NOT my speciality, let's just say.)

ANYWAY, for those of you who have it, have you noticed that in the first segment, there's a part where we only do ONE SIDE of a move, and not the other? This is my first fitness DVD so I'm not sure if it is a common mistake... anyway, no biggie, I just try to do the other side during a break in the workout.

Also, what do you guys recommend next? Should I buy another Carmen Electra striptease dvd, and if so, which one? What about Billy Blank's dvds?

1st off, good on you for getting back into it! I know how hard it was for me to get back into working out after my injuries and subsequent surgeries so well done.

Yeah I noticed the goof up the first time too. All a weird edit makes one of the moves (the side leg lift) change really awkward, but its one of thoes things that once you know the moves it kind of doesnt matter.
If you're going to do Carmens other discs (I reccomend the 1st one the 4th/5th one which was combined in my set, the 3rd one is fun but its all costumes and stuff). But to get any kind of cardio benefit out of them you have to repeat the routines a few times over.

I was looking at getting The Hotpants Workout. I've heard some really positive things about it.

Is billy blanks the tae bo guy? As a Martial Artist I kind of dont like the idea of martial arts, or kickboxing on tape as some of the kicks are kind of technical and if you do them wrong for a long period of time you can do more harm then good. Though if the instruction is decent and actually shoes you how to do the moves indervidually before launching into an aerobic workout with them then I dont see the problem with it. Kickboxing/Martial Arts is a really great workout.

I know what you mean! I did Kung Fu (seriously) for ten years and I'm similarly wary of martial art "fads"... the best dynamic is defnitely in person, with a tough but mature teacher. I'm going to do a little more research on Billy and the Hotpants dvds... thanks for the Carmen Electra rec's, I'm looking forward to getting disc 1.

Thanks for the encouragement about getting back to fitness... it's tough when all I can think about as I'm working out is, "Wow, I coulda done this so much better 1.5 years ago!" On the positive side, it's so nice to feel the familiar endorphins rushing through my body again. This time I'm gonna try to rein it in, not get too overboard ... that's hard too. (But worth it!)

I have a Billy Blanks dvd---it's the Target Abs & Butt one. I really like it!!! It's pretty intense, it's about 45 min. for each (abs and butt) and it's non-stop. But when it's done, I feel like I just had a great workout. When I was doing it, I noticed quite a difference really quickly as well. So apparently it worked. I stopped just because I'm lazy but I fully intend on starting again after the new year.

I'm the same way with my work outs. I have to force myself to have rest days. I cant even do the active rests days anymore where I just go for a walk because I always end up running! Right now I have a head cold (in summer mind you) so I'm forced to the sidelines for the moment.

Its funny. Today I was looking at the Billy Blanks dvds in the store while I was meant to be christmas shopping and I just kept thinking to myself 'I probably do everything on here anyway'. Lots of speed drills, sparring and Kata certainly make for a good work out as it is. I also do a Kung Fu, but its more a freestyle Martial Arts now. We've introduced so many different styles into the training. Akido, Kickboxing etc.

If you do try out the Hotpants DVD before I do, can you tell me your thoughts on it in relation to its workout potential. We seem to be really similar in wanting that high intensity workout kind of stuff so it'll be interesting to see someone elses thoughts. If I get it before you I'll post up a review on it.

Have you ever considered taking up Kickboxing or Boxing or Martial Arts as a sport? A few people have come to my club saying they've started off with Billy Blanks but they want something more from it after they've done it a few times. Its purely out of curiosity that I ask.

Good question but it's not really the kickboxing/martial arts aspect I like about it. Plus, since it's the abs and butt video, it isn't as "kickboxy" as the rest.

You know what, I don't think Hot Pants is available in North America! I saw it on Amazon.uk but not the American one. When I search "hot pants" on Amazon.com's dvd section, I get a dazzling little gem called "Hot Pants Contest" and I don't think ...it's about who can do the most push-ups! Too bad, cos the reviews seem to be really up my alley. Well, whatever my next dvd fitness purchase is, I'll definitely review it here!

Fonzarelli23, what sorts of exercises do they do in the abs and butt video? It sounds intense. I like intense. =)

Sort of related: I've been trudging around in my bf's gigantic ski boots lately (it's cold in nyc!) and they are reaaaaally heavy. Children snicker at me, older strangers on the subway ask me if my shoes are too big, and girls my age widen their eyes in alarm like, "omg, is this the next fashion trend??" But oh, right so back to the point: after walking around in those giants for a day, my upper butt muscles hurt the next day! I never even knew I had muscles up there... sort of like below your lower back... above the cheeks...

Its funny that the Hot pants workout isnt available in the US considering it always red like it was marketed toward the US with all the talk of the instructor being the choreographer to stars like Britney and Christina Aguilera. He was the person who got christin in shape before her stripped tour, well, apparently.

It work thoe muscles that you're talking about I do Supermans and Hyper extention work. The first one you lay on your stomach with your hands close to you. You lift your legs up and hold them so your feet are just a bit off the ground. then you lift your chest up off the ground. You can then extend it so when you rep lift your chest of the ground you can push you arms forward and back before lowering your chest again.

they do say though that the best exersice you can do is incidental. Like cleaning your house really vigorously and what not.

sass----I don't really know how to describe the exercises. I think what makes it intense is that you're constantly moving and do something that really works your muscles.

can I be honest, I am so bored with this topic of stripping or pole humping "excercise" can we get on with it already. Why bring dry humping a pole into mainstream aerobics, what message does that send people!

I don't think we need to "get on with it" because other people are interested. Sorry if you don't like the idea but from your statement I take it you haven't seen the videos. She's definitely not advocating "pole humping" for a stripclub, more for the privacy of ones home. And first and foremost, it incoporates great exercise techniques.
