Teenage slimming champion loses half his former body weight
An 18-year-old who lost nearly 14 stone in just over a year has been named Young Slimmer of the Year today by a weight loss organisation.
Daniel Sadler from Barry, South Glamorgan, lost 13st 1lb in a year and a half, beating other 15 to 21-year-old hopefuls from around the country to be crowned by competition organisers Slimming World.
Mr Sadler earned £2,000 for his feat, which he began in December 2005 when he joined the organisation at nearly 26 stone. He received his prize in London's Ritz hotel this morning and intends to buy a car to help with his work as a carer.

Daniel Sadler before he decided to lose weight
As a teenager with a 60-inch waist, Mr Sadler was too big to fit in cinema seats. He often ate his way through 24 bags of crisps a day and washed it down with two litres of coke in front of his computer. He received cruel taunts about his weight from his own father and children in the local village.
He decided to join his local slimming club two weeks before Christmas and had lost a stone by the festive celebration.
"I'd just had enough and wanted to do something about it," he said.
"I used to play badminton but could not move around the court. I used to get short of breath and couldn't sleep in the summer when it was hot. I wanted to be able to buy clothes from the same shops as my friends."
The teenager admitted he still has a hearty appetite, but said: "Now, rather than spending £1 on sweets to snack on during the day, I go to the market and get a kilogram of grapes."
A spokesperson for Slimming World said: "It is quite a phenomenal amount of weight to lose - he's done brilliantly to do that.
"He's much fitter now and plays a lot of sport, like rugby and badminton, which he couldn't do before." The total weight loss of the 16 semi finalists was 85st 3lbs.

He often ate his way through 24 bags of crisps a day
! If he cut that down to "just" 4 bags a day, the weight loss probably came fairly easily.
How can anyone eat 24 bags of crisps a day?! That is about 6 times more than I eat in a year!

It's a magnificent achievement but you have to wonder if he's going to be able to maintain this healthy weight for the rest of his life - he's only 18. I really hope so but most people who drop a huge amount of weight like this and so quickly usually end up piling it all back on again when they don't have the motivation of a prize or national publicity.

Slimming World is similar to Weight Watchers in the UK with similar weight loss programs. I really hope he manages to keep it off but I worry when he says "I still have a hearty appetite". It means he hasn't got his portion control anywhere near right - a kilogram of grapes is over 2lbs. That's a LOT of grapes.

Oh okay, weight watchers and those types of programs are great if your going to stick to them and carry what you've learned with you when you stop the program. My mom went to LA Weightloss for quite a while and lost 75lbs, it was amazing, she wasn't hungry...it basically just taught you portion control. She packed the pounds right back on when she stopped going. That is a shitload of grapes...I'd be so full I'd probably see grapes in my sleep.

The stuff that keeps you from digesting the fat?
They call it Sauce Hollandaise in the toilet bowl. Ew.

I think thats what it does, the article said if your going to rely on just the pill to lose weight, you won't get as good of results. You are still supposed to eat healty and excersise. If people just wanted to shit their pants to lose weight why wouldn't you just go buy a laxative instead of spending $50 on 30 pills. One of the girls I work with was telling us how her friends have tried it and were saying you really have no idea your going to do it, it just comes and theres nothing you can do but try to get to the bathroom in time. Sounds like lots of fun to me
