Default If anyone has ever had an eating disorder, I've got a question about body hair....

I've spent the whole morning trying to find this information on the internet but no luck. My aunt currently doesn't have the internet at home, otherwise she'd be doing this. I've never had an eating disorder so i can say. I have had a period where I didn't eat much, because of depression, but i've never had full blown anorexia or bulimia.

My cousin had an eating disorder a year ago, she got really thin, and noticed she was growing that body har anorexics have- lanugo hair (babies have it as well apparently) The question is, does that hair disappear when the anorexic person gets well, does the body automatically get rid of it, or does it stay? Has anyone experienced it?

Lanugo

An unusual soft downs hair on the face, back or arms. This is caused by the body's protective mechanism in malnutrition to help keep the individual warm. It is a result of hormonal imbalances. It may take an extended period of time for this to go away after the individual begins eating appropriately due to the body's need to protect itself.

I could only find the one, looks like the answer is "eventually"

Thanks, i've read similar at tons of other sites. I'll let her know that it might eventually go away. I think she expected it to fall out right away. The hormone imbalance thing is good too; she should probably get that checked out by a doctor, because i imagine unnatural illnesses like anorexia can cause things to go wrong in the body.
