http://2stopmeth.org/main.php?pg=gallery
Truly scary, some of these people don't even look like their former selves. Tragic...

Thanks for the post. I work at an Urgent Care Center on the weekends and Meth is now starting to increase in our area. We had a 17 year old Meth user come in who was "tweaking" and had chopped into his leg with a small ax because there were "bugs" on it eating his skin. He sliced right through the bone and tendon and had to be taken to the ER.
Meth is very scary stuff.

Oh, wow! I knew Meth took its toll on you look-wise, but I didn't realize how much.

That is disgustingly sad. Look at the difference in ten years. And forty is still young, so she wouldn't have wrinkles like that.
They could eventually add a picture of Whitney Houston.

These are truly horrifying! I can't help but pity these pathetic addicts and especially their families who've been destroyed by this.

My brother's wife's sister (got that straight? ) is in the process of picking up her life after meth. It is truly horrible how this drug affects people. It gets to the point, moreso than other drugs, where NOTHING else matters. She did cocaine and other drugs for a couple years, but then meth became her drug of choice. She supposedly cleaned up when she and her husband became pregnant, but then 3 months after the baby was born (last July) she disappeared. A week before her disappearance, we saw her at a birthday party, and her appearance alarmed me. She had tiny bandaids on her face that caught me off guard, and looked in general like shit. My SIL's mother pulled her aside and told her she should just take the bandaids off, that they were just drawing more attention to her 'problem'. God, it was so pathetic. When she held her 3 month old baby she looked totally bored, disgusted even.
Long story short, she was caught 1/2 a state away, her car loaded with all sorts of delights that she was dealing. She spent 7 months in jail and her case is coming up in court soon. I think she is being charged with 3 felonies. All this time her baby boy's been without a mother, raised by her husband (who has filed for divorce).
What kills me is that this girl had everything. Great upbringing, great job, great husband and a beautiful baby boy. Now...she has nothing but the daily struggle of trying to keep meth out of her life. It destroyed her life (and although her looks are improving now that she is clean, it took away a lot of her youthful beauty. All for WHAT?
Makes me very sad.

Thanks for the link, celeb_2006. I just made my sons stop what they were doing & come look. I've seen some of those pictures before, but the sliding pictures of the one woman was astounding.
I've got family members who lost everything to meth. My drop-dead gorgeous ex-sister-in-law now looks like a 60 year old hag, and my dad's formerly pretty ex-wife now looks like an ugly troll.

Anyone ever watch the program on A&E called Intervention? It is a documentary on people who have addictions of one kind of another, and ends with a family/friends intervention and hopefully rehab. I have only seen 3 episodes, but it is brutal. Anyway, the recovery rate for Meth addicts getting clean and staying clean is 6%. I knew it was low, but had no idea. DH's had (has?) a Meth problem, stats don't look good.

I don't dispute the harm that meth does to people, but there is something a little sanctimonious and mean-spirited about showing these photos. It's more like heaping scorn than educating people or being a cautionary tale, IMO.

I didn't check this particular website, but I've seen others that clearly state that pictures are shown with the permission of the photographed people. Who knows why they gave their permission, but they did.
I think the pictures are extremely valuable, because young people so often think that dangerous activities *might* kill them suddenly in a blaze of glory, but they don't properly consider how they might stay alive & just ruin themselves. Obviously, we place high value on appearance, and nobody in their right mind wants to look like that. Many people might not understand (or really care) what harm they'll do to their hearts, livers, kidneys, brains, etc. but these pictures make the harm undeniably scary & real.
