Losing Weight?
I've seen a lot of discussion on here regarding weight loss techniques, diets, etc, so I wanted some opinions/factual information regarding weight loss. I know there's some kind of formula or standard regarding calorie intake/calorie burn in order to lose weight. Can anyone help me with what that is? I'm aiming to lose between 10-15 pounds over the next month to two months. I work out on a treadmill anywhere from 30min to 1 hour 30 min, depending on the day. My biggest downfall is that I really like my beer... , other than that, my diet is really pretty good. Any thoughts?

Re: Losing Weight?
Count calories, eat low fat stuff, lots of veggies and fruits, and do some light weight lifting because more lean muscle = faster metabolism

Re: Losing Weight?
A lot of the weight loss talk has been about me b/c I'm making myself accountable by doing it publicly. That helps me a lot, even though this is just people on a web forum, there are still people out there that know I'm doing it and are cheering me on as I keep going down. Weight Watchers has been very successful for me so far (down a little over 24 pounds in 9 weeks), and it was for my mom in the past. I like that on Weight Watchers you can still allow yourself those "indulgences" that you love, so you can still have beer on Weight Watchers, you just have to count the points.
I can't say that I know the exact formula, I know that there is a fine line between over feeding yourself and giving your body enough food to run without thinking it is going into starvation mode.
Good luck to you, this forum is great on supportiveness

Re: Losing Weight?
I calorie count. Done it a bunch of different ways in the past, some successfully, some not. WW wasn't helpful to me because all it did was focus my mind on doing this or that. Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem worked as long as I stayed on their chemically laden food. The secret I finally worked out for myself was
a)stay away from high fat/high sugar/high carb laden foods,
b)make right food choices at every meal/snack and if you screw up start again at the next meal, not tomorrow or next week,
c)eat smaller portions and stop when full, even if full is at two bites,
d)move more, even if it's just adding extra walking, gardening, whatever. Park farthest from the store, do things you know will add to your activity/exercise level and schedule in regular exercise too.
I've lost over 50 pounds doing these things consistently and I'm hoping to keep losing slowly and steadily till I get to the size I was in college.

Re: Losing Weight?
Roughly 10 -12 x your bodyweight in cals per day
Never go below 1200 cals per day - even if you're 100lbs
30/40/30 is a good ratio to sat with - 30(carbs)/40(protein)/30(fats) % per day
If you eat fruit - try to do it in the am or post workout only
Good source of fats, salmon, avocado, nuts, olive oil, fish or hemp oil
Unlimited green veggies to fill up on
Try and eat 4-6 smaller meals and always eat a breakfast when you get up or if you exercise first thing on an empty stomach eat right after

Re: Losing Weight?
U absolutely need lean protein in your diet too and a lot of it b/c it makes you feel full and takes more calories to digest it plust no fat or carbs = no fat stored and your body's need to burn the fat already stored on your body.

I know what you meant but someone might think it means they can eat that much per pound instead of that is how many calories are in a pound.

Re: Losing Weight?
YEAH SO if you burn off 3500 + whatever you ate that day for example 1200 calories then theoretically you lose a pound.
However that is a huge amount of calories to burn in a day, and even though you burn a certain of calories a day just by living, it would take a lot of work to burn that much excercising.
Not much help I kno sorry and no easy solution, but U did ask for a formula so...
1lb. weight loss = burning 3500 calories + (amount of calories you eat in a day)

But remember that initially dieters will lose a bit of water weight as well so you can lose 5 pounds in a day if you are cutting calories and carbs.

Re: Losing Weight?
I don't even think you need to change your diet. Just eat smaller portions.
Never dieted, but when I had stomach problems I was forced to eat less (even though I ate the same things), and the weight just dropped dramatically.

Re: Losing Weight?
Back in late 2000, someone commented on my being 'a bit chubby', so I asked around, and apparently I was 'not fat, but not skinny either'. So from then on and through most of 2001 I started to restrain myself from eating. I stopped eating lunches at school, and only at yoghurt when I got home, watching B&B (hey, I was 16).
Eventually people started telling me I had changed a LOT, and looking back from my school pictures from 2000 to 2001's copies, I look like a different person.
I felt much better, and I am in the process of doing the same thing now because I gained a bit of pudginess back in early 2004 (just for the sake of it).
My mum thought it was an unhealthy way to do it, but I was fine all the time and I'm not silly enough to become bullimic, etc... I'm very level headed, and it only took a couple of months to work.
Losing weight is only really a state of mind. But I relate to it being very hard at times.
Hint: If you're feeling really hungry, make yourself a cracker with cheese, or something light like that. It'll occupy you!

Re: Losing Weight?
okay you need to cut down 875cals everyday in order to lose 15lbs in two months. maybe you can work out in the gym for 2-3hours 4 times a day to burn 750cals & eat some healthy food instead of the fat one. buy some fitness dvds.. you can actually drink beer like normal.
oh i have heard of a diet, drink a cup of redwine & eat either a piece of cheese or a cup of yogurt every night and you can lose some pounds.
