What are some effective exercises for slimming thighs, hips and butt?
slimming thighs, hips and butt? I really need to lose inches in these areas. I currently do squats and lunges to the point of practically falling down cause my legs hurt so bad. I want to tone these spots so I can fit into my normal jeans. Will walking help somewhat?
PLEASE HELP!

ohhhh girl...i hear ya. the best is just regular old cardio. you can't really target fat burning in any particular area.
but to build up muscle tone, you might want to go to a site like ivillage.com and check our their fitness section. or fitness magazine (i think it is fitnessmag.com) to look for some toning exercises for those areas.
and yes, walking is a great exercise for all-over fat burning because it's low-impact and keeps your metabolism humming steadily as long as you work it for more than 20 minutes.

I agree....walking is good but jogging/running kicks ass for slimming hips. But no matter what you do, doing something (even for 10 minutes a day) is always better than nothing.

Martial Arts. If you find a really great club you'l find that you do all of thoes leg/butt/hip exercises while doing cardio.
I also tried out The Fit to Strip second Disc and I found that within a few weeks of doing that I was stronger and slimmer (though for me being naturally without butt, I actually gained a butt by building up the muscle) in thoes areas.
Like olivia said, Pilates is great for that as well.
But you need to burn and the only way to really lose inches is to do cardio at a heart rate that is your fat burn zone for a sustained period of time. To find yours I reccomend joining: http://www.sportzblitz.net/ to use their calculators. They also have some really really great articles to mix up your work outs.

I lots of it's genetic - if you a natural 'pear' shape any fat in that area can be almost impossible to shift. Are you overweight generally, or just a little chunky in that area?

Basically exercise burns energy. Burn more energy than you out in you burn of some fat.
No exercise specifically burns of fat in one area.
What it can do is tone and shape the muscle. What you are doing is fine for toning. Overdo it and you will build mass though.
If its fat you want to burn just watch your diet and get some cardio in.

I've tried loads but I can't be arsed doing them because I'd rather be sat curled up on my sofa.
Did go through a phase of leg raises with ankle weights, you lay on your side and raise your legs, it really burns but I gave up as my bloody dog kept running over to try and snatch the weights of my leg or get too "friendly" with his Mum.

And they're fun! I laugh at myself all the time when I'm doing the routines. Though now I'm inspired to maybe try out a few adult beginner dance lessons.

Last night on Amazon.com I read that she will be releasing her 6th dvd at the end of December, so I checked her official aerobic stiptease site but there was no mention about it!
Lani let me know if you find other good workout/dance dvds!

As others have said, I don't think there is anything you can do to specifically target fat in one area. If you are a natural pear and your body stores fat on your hips and thighs (like mines does) it is a devil to shift, and you need to be careful you don't over do the leg exercises and build muscle mass under the fat, which can make your legs even bigger....

It's the luck of the draw - when I diet the weight falls off my arse, hips and thighs but as an unhealthy 'apple' shape the abdominal fat is much harder to shift. Boring boring boring - eat a sensible diet and do some moderate cardio, every day if possible, and some toning/weights. Having said that I'm into major lo-carb diet at the moment after a winter of sloth and self-neglect so don't take any notice of me!
