I got a trainer!
I start tomorrow She came and measured my body fat today (currently 24%), and tested my upper and lower body strength (above average), and flexibiltiy (average).
I signed up for 16 sessions over 8 weeks. She said she thought I could get down to 18% body fat or lower in that time. I hope she's right!
I am really excited and nervous too. I hope that I'll be able to hang with it because I know it's gonna be tough. I want to look really good at the beach this year!

Re: I got a trainer!
Well, I started in the yellow pages, and just looked up the trainers that had websites. Her website was quite extensive...with lots of client pics and recommendations.
I am actually scheduled with a trainer that works for her...she was booked during the times I was available. Both of them are certified with the Nat. Academy of Sports Medicine.
So, pricing? Well, I booked 16 sessions and it was $760. That would be twice a week for 8 weeks. Enough to get me well under way, I hope. The owner was more expensive, $1080 for 16 sessions (I think), and I was willing to pay that but she wasn't available. So, basically anywhere from $45-65 an hour for a certified trainer.
There are cheaper ones at the gym but I wouldn't think they would be very knowlegable given that I saw a sign in the bathroom saying "Do you want to be a personal trainer? Now hiring!". They have NO certification and probably more sales training than fitness training. After all, they have supplements to sell. I can count my own reps, thank you very much.
Actually, at the YMCA I used to belong to, they had a free body fat testing day, and one of their "trainers" told me I was 31% body fat. Like hell! I am a relatively slender person with some problem areas I need to work. I think the deal was that they made you feel bad so you would sign up for their (additional cost) personal training.

Re: I got a trainer!
Cool! Does she come to your place or do you meet her at the gym? My sis got a trainer to come at her place once or twice a week and says it's great!

Re: I got a trainer!
She will come to my place twice a week. We haven't worked out yet. She came last week to discuss goals, diet, and measure everything for my progress chart. Our first workout is Wednesday! I hope I'll be OK by then...I wrenched my back yesterday and am currently taking muscle relaxants to help.
