Has anyone here had their tubes tied?
If so, how much did it hurt? And how long did it take to recover? Also, has it made your period less heavy/painful? Sorry if these questions are too personal; I'm just wondering because I'm saving up to get one, and it would help to hear some personal experiences. Thanks!

Re: Has anyone here had their tubes tied?
I did not have one but several people I have known elected to have their husband have a vascetomy instead because Tubal ligation is MAJOR surgery. A vascetomy is not. Maybe you should consider that if you are married or in a permanent relationship.

Re: Has anyone here had their tubes tied?
So funny, I was going to start a thread on this very topic. I'm interested to see if anyone has any stories.

I've also heard some people take this route, but I'm actually not in a permanent relationship now, so that's really not quite an option for me right now
Oh BTW is a hysterectomy an elective surgery?

In my case it was. I'd had problems for years and they laid out like five different options, including a partial hyterectomy or a tubal. I told them to take everything they could. It turned my health around dramatically.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you Several of my family members have had hysterectomies because of tumors and whatnot. It was really hard to watch them deal with all that constant pain (I sure did shut up about my menstrual cramps though!), so in those cases and yours the operation is definitely a godsend.

Re: Has anyone here had their tubes tied?
My former SIL had hers done and she said it didn't hurt all that bad. Hers was like in and out surgery. I believe she couldn't like do much lifting and whatnot for about 6 weeks.
I had mine tied after my last baby by csection. My periods are different to be honest with you. Could be because I now have a scare in my uterus from my csection. I do notice that I have less of a sex drive and that I get bloated more than I use to. PMS is worse but it could be my age as that I think I am like premen.
Gator said she had a hysterectomy. Now I am curious, did you have everything taken out? My grandma had everything but half an ovary and the doc did that so she wouldn't have to go through menopause and something about not having to take hormones? She had this done like over 50 yrs ago.

Re: Has anyone here had their tubes tied?
Darksith I opted to have everything taken out after my doctor told me that 25% - 30% of women who leave in the ovaries end up having to have them removed later for complications and the like. I've had such trouble with my reproductive organs through the years, trouble getting pregnant, trouble staying pregnant, trouble with my cycle, you name it, that the more they could remove and spare me worked well. We also have high rates of cancer in the family and whatever they could remove that might develop cancer was a bonus.
Afterwards they put me on an estrogen replacement, not the HRT that causes problems with cancer but simple estrodiol. I took it two years and the doctor told me once a year to back off it by half and see if I had menopause symptoms. Once I reached the point where backing off caused no menopause symptoms I could stop the estrogen and be done with the worst of menopause. The first year I backed off and the symptoms were awful, killer hot flashes, emotion galore and no sleeping so I went back to full dose. A year later backed off and nothing, completely stopped and I get the occasional very mild hot flash. Doctor thinks I'm mostly through menopause now and I feel great, no sudden hairyness, deep voice or lack of mojo.

Re: Has anyone here had their tubes tied?
I have looked into Essure. It is less evasive.
For more info, go to www.essure.com.
You can also visit Childfree forums, or pm me for more links!!!
I have not had anything done, Dh is fixed and worries about me dying under the knife.
Essure is outpatient procedure.
Goodnight all!
