What to do with a nose bleed
I had a nose bleed when I woke up this morning, its the first one I've had since I was about 5, and those ones were usually caused by my finger!!
Some people say tip your head back, some people say blow it and all kinds, what are you actually supposed to do? Anybody know? I wasn't sure so I just stood there and wiped it until it stopped!

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
I used to get those alot when I was a kid, the doctor said it was because my nose was dry. I usually just roll up like two squares of toilet paper and stuff it my nose. Gross but that is the only way that it won't really get all over the place. I've heard that if you blow it, it can start coming out of your eyes. I don't know if that's true though, I heard that when I was a kid.

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
I'm a nurse and we were told not to tip the head back. hold the nostrils shut (to apply gentle pressure) and put some ice on the bridge of the nose. I'm sorry you had a nosebleed.

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
^^ Well I think its safe to take the advice of a nurse! Thanks. I just stuffed some tissue up before because it felt runny and its still bleeding a little! My mum says its healthy to have a nose bleed every now and again, especially when you've had a cold because it clears your head. I don't know if this is true or just something she said to make me feel better!

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
I have never had one but my mum has terrible ones from time to time that can last a couple of hours. She just sits on the side of the bath with her face over the sink and tips her head forward. As others have said, don't ever tip your head back! I wouldn't stuff tissue up it if I were you either. Just let it run its cause.

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
oh iv had a lot. lol. i can help!
a family friend is a retired nurse. so shes told me what to do.
tip your head slightly forwards with a cold facecloth on your forehead and on your nose. then when it is done bleeding, put some vaseline in your nose. {im not sure what that does, but my doctor also told me that}

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
Place a cold pack on your nose and cheeks, this will helps constrict blood vessels and stop bleeding.

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
Hey Blueriver, Tiara's nosebleed started in late March. I'm hoping she's managed to clear it up by now!
Welcome to the boards!

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
That sounds like a really good idea Blueriver, plus the coolness would probably make you feel better as well (I always seem to get nosebleeds when I have a headache. It's probably just my brain exploding slightly )

Re: What to do with a nose bleed
I remember in grade school, a nurse told me to put a little piece of tissue up under my top lip and slightly tilt ur head back. I dunno what that tissue did, but it worked.
