Default I love the smell of a pandemic in the morning (official swine flu thread)

Well, why not? Seems like enough of us are going to have it sooner or later. Might as well have a thread to whinge from bed about it!

I've been fatigued since Thurs, I woke up Friday with a sore throat and by the time I went to bed that night my eyes were running and my nose was stuffy. I went to my best friend's 21st last night but felt so shit I was home by midnight (if it had been anyone else's 21st I don't think I'd have gone at all) and today I've slept 16 hours. I've barely left my bedroom and my temperature is all over the place, I've got the most charming diarrhea ever (you so wanted to know that detail), I'm achy and according to my mum look "really, really pale".

I was hoping it was just a cold or something but today I feel like I've been hit by a train. My grandad's going to take me to the doctor tomorrow but unless the doctor says I'm asthmatic enough to be worthy of testing, I might not even get tested for it - the government has instructed GPs only to test "high risk" cases of flu-like illness.

Blergh.

Cue my stupid crappy asthmatic lungs at any minute...

My mother-in-law thinks she has it. someone at work has it. At the moment I'm ok!! I'm just going to assume I'll get it at some point. I'll just keep washing my hands and using the anti-bac handwash.

Didn't get tested for swine flu. Anticlimax! However, the GP did look in my throat, wince (yes, he winced) and go "Ugh, that is very red!" and gave me antibiotics for a throat infection. Funny, because my throat was only mildly sore. So I could have swine flu and not know it, or just a throat infection from something else and thus all of the annoyingness with none of the immunity. Anything more strenuous than walking from my bedroom to the couch makes me feel dizzy and short of breath and I'm rapidly getting bored of all this sitting on my butt. Hrmph.

Also, the doctor instructed me to avoid exposure to direct sunlight because of the antibiotics I'm on.

My brother in law and my nephew have just gotten over swine flu. Both said they have never felt so sick in their life. They were laid low for weeks and had to stay isolated the whole time.

Even though they can both legally go back to work, they are still on sick leave. Other employees would probably freak out if they cough (which is frequent) and also they still feel too sick to leave the house. My sister thankfully didn't get it, even though she was looking after both of them.

my DIL was just released from the hospital this morning after being admitted yesterday, she was on an IV until she left. Dehydrated, they ruled out swine flu 2 hours after she went it but we really thought she might have it. It is all over here. 2 daycares down the street confirmed 2 more children yesterday. Freaky. I havent been sick in 3 years, so if I start feeling bad then Im going to get tested

My mother has swine flu and has been told to avoid "circulating" in the general population for a week.

Great.

I'm calling her Typhoid Mother from now on, between trying to avoid germs...

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The H1N1 flu virus could cause up to 90,000 U.S. deaths, mainly among children and young adults, if it resurges this fall as expected, according to a report released Monday by a presidential advisory panel.

The H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu virus, could infect between 30 percent and 50 percent of the American population during the fall and winter and lead to as many as 1.8 million U.S. hospital admissions, the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology reported.
The report says 30,000 to 90,000 deaths are projected as part of a "plausible scenario" involving large outbreaks at schools, inadequate antiviral supplies and the virus peaking before vaccinations have time to be effective

My daughter's doctor said the vaccine will not be out til mid-Oct. She is recommending a normal flu shot and the pneumonia vaccine now though since it is the pneumonia that causes the most problems.

Flu hurts! The only time I got it each hair hurt seperately,I swear! I never miss a flu shot-if I can avoid that agony or even make it milder,I will! I also get the pneumovax shot every 5 years. It only protects against 18 or the 24 strains you can get,but that is a big edge. No sense not taking advantage.
