I vote for The Discomfort Zone. I didn't like McEwan's last book very much.

I was going to do this, but all 6 copies of it are on the reserve list. So I guess I will try and snag a copy off ebay, as I an too stingy to pay retail. I hope you have more luck at your library than me.

I'm afraid it's probably going to be popular at the library because of the movie that's just been released. On the other hand, you might get a cheap copy at a bookstore for the same reason. It's been published for a while now so a 2nd hand bookshop might be able to help too.
So far it's the clear favourite, but let's wait and see. It doesn't get my vote because I've already read it but I'm happy to discuss it anyway. My pick is Madame Bovary LOL

Well, personally my choice would be Memories of My Melancholy Whores.
But since I'm going to be outvoted *wink* I'm throwing in my vote also for The Discomfort Zone, I'm not feeling Atonement right now for some reason. But of course I will be fine with whatever is chosen.

If your particular favourite isn't voted for this time, there's always the next time! I plan to use the same list, with additions if necessary, throughout the year. I haven't read the Discomfort Zone yet so that's a good enough reason for me, but like I say, it's a democratic process so I'm happy to go with whatever the majority choose. 24 hours to go. I will open a new thread with the selected book title on Monday 30 Jan and then probably ask the Mods to lock it until 4 Feb to stop any sneaky discussions and spoilers!
Voting for our second book, to be discussed on 7 April, will open on 4 Feb and run for 7 days.
