Count me in please!!!!
I love reading & have just finished my degree - I'm missing chatting about books (sad, I know)
I really will read anything and everything. Fitzgerald is a great suggestion. I thought of 'Tender is The Night' as it isn't quite as well-known as great gatsby etc, but it may be a bit too long? Not sure how long we'll be reading each book, maybe a week?

Synopsis
Homemade scones, pom-poms, daisy chains. . . The Great Big Glorious Book for Girls will take women back to a time when we made cup cakes with our grandmothers, when girls weren't obsessed with all things pink, when they didn't wear ‘hot to trot’ t-shirts aged eight and when a bit of sticky-backed plastic and a tissue box could be the answer to your dreams!
Perfect for mothers, grandmothers, aunts and godmothers (as well as daughters, granddaughters, nieces and goddaughters, of course), this is a book for all women who secretly, or not so secretly, loved playing French elastics, dream of making elderflower cordial and need reminding of how to play cat’s cradle.
Probably not to everyones taste but it looks fun!

You are right..it is not to my liking! I am a guy and had brothers and we rode bikes and had waterballoon and crabapple wars(oh ok..I did have a doll at one time..and also played 'barbies' with my little girlfriend..though I did the manly thing and tore them up or melted them at least) and threw little buckets of pee at the nasty stuck up neighbors!! Bad enough that I myself recommended that 1899 Women's libber 'The Awakening' book myself!

We had a crabapple war in a mall(open air mall..they actually had them back them) one time and got thrown out. Well what the hell did they expect planting all the planters with crabapple trees?
oops book recommendation....to keep on topic.....How about "Bless the Beasts and Children"?

I''m in. I'll second Madame Bovary since I bought a used copy at school this year but haven't read it yet. But I'm cool reading anything.

I again decry the selection of M. Bovary. I hate it! Too 'have to have read and done a report on for English class' for me. *recalls with horror tenth grade English class*
hell along those lines why not just read "Mrs Dalloway' or "To the Lighthouse" oe "Catcher in the Rye"..maybe some "Tom Sawyer"..we could also read and discuss "The Lottery"(and then enact the book and randomly stone one of the members to death?)
*I am just bitchy cause I HAD to read M. Bovary during a very busy time and do MULTIPLE reports on the book-resulting in my hating it with a passion. So much so that I have blocked out any memory of what 'Flaubert's Folly'(hee!) is really even about anymore.

^ LOL. I wouldn't mind reading/re-reading any of those books. But we're still taking this to a vote - AO just wanted to gather up all the suggestions first. I imagine we'll start a new thread for the voting/debating the choice?

Experience has shown that if we debate even the choice of book we won't be able to agree on anything. I will post the list of suggested books in no particular order next Monday and then everyone has 24 hours to vote for ONE choice. I'd be happy to take votes via PM if people don't want others to know their vote. Whichever book gets the most votes wins and if there's a draw we will re-vote on those particular books. We will discuss the book on Mon 4 Feb (NOT before please!). On the same day I will re-post the book list and we will vote again for our 'meeting' on Mon 7 April.
With any book club the chosen book won't necessarily be to everyone's taste and that's kinda the point. If you have already read the chosen book you can either revisit (it can be very interesting) or pick one of the others on the list for your own reading pleasure. Obviously you can still join in the discussion at our 'meeting' in Feb.
I know I'm coming over a bit bossy (who, moi?) on this but I know the pitfalls of organising a real life book club, let alone a cyber one, and you have to have rules that everyone abides by or it just doesn't work.

I do, too. Really, this sort of thing requires a leader, otherwise it spirals into chaos.

No worries!! I was going to suggest that one person be in charge, otherwise it could get messy!!! Thanks for doing it!
